Sign Tim Murray, and Gerard gallant then the Leafs need to find a trade partner for TJ Brody. Then if trading Marner/Nylander make sure a Top D man comes back in any trade.
Find a place for Murray, whether buy out, LTIR, or dump in a trade for picks or as a throw in on bigger deal.

Why is everyone always dumping on Brodie? Hes easily the best and most consistent D-man on this team, since he arrived.

Dumping on players after a couple of games where they may have been a bit off is what leaf fans do. TJ is far from a problem here. He makes everyone he plays with better. Move out Holl and cut Gio minutes . Trade Marner for a top D plus.

I'm not dumping on Brodie. I agree he is very consistent.
I just think if Toronto actually did trade one of the big boys for a Dman, Brodie is the odd man out. contract $ and term left.

Nobody is available either. This is one of the worst crops of free agents in recent memory. Even a guy like Kampf might be getting a long-ish term deal, for 2.5-3 million.

Bunting is probably getting Hyman money now.

You aren't replacing Brodie easily.

If you get a top D it won’t be Brodie who’d be the off man out. Reilly, new guy, McCabe, Brodie…. it’s everyone after that who's expendable.

@pontiac5. In all fairness to how others responded, you wrote the Leafs need to find a trade partner for Brodie. Then "if" they trade Nylander/ Marner they need to get a top 4 D back.
That's says trade Brodie for sure, but if then decide to trade N/ M get a Dman back. That is not the same as trade N/ M and then Brodie is expendable.
Let's say the Leafs trade Brodie. Who do they sign or trade for that is a top 4 under $5M? At $5M, Brodie is good value. As for Liljegren, I am not sure he is a Leaf at start of next season. He looked lost the 2nd half of the season and even worse after Sandin got traded.

So my position on Brodie is to trade him for a second or third this year!

Yes he played a lot during this year’s playoff but in my view was caught out of position often was not the factor a $5m player should be.

I’ve been saying this for awhile now; he’s not the defender he was. He’s slower, has no offence and is not physical at all. I’ve suggested we trade him for something versus losing him for nothing at the end of his term.

He can be replaced by UFA Gavrikov who is younger with more offensive upside. He made $2.8m last year; I’d offer him for 4 years @ $4m (but am prepared to go to $5).

@both Randy's Brodie didn't look good in the playoffs, nor did a pot of people. Trying to replace a defensive presence for 5m or less aav, is not easy. He's also only a rental, I'd like to see less turnover year to year, not more.

Brodie is the new Larry Murphy in Toronto for treatment. He plays a solid, no stress kind of game but people want him to be mistake free. He leaves and our D-core looks brutal.

Brodie was often left alone or put in impossible positions by his D partners throughout the playoffs. He’s worth every penny he earns. I’ll take the 2 million savings from Holl being gone and keep Brodie thanks . Gio needs more nights off next year.
