The assumption was the sign and trade suggested in the original deal. If he’s extended he gets Power on his own .

@Bob no, no he does not.

Power makes 8.35 for 7 years, at 20 years old, and being a top 4 D. Willy is almost 30 and will be making 10+ as a winger. It isn't even close.

Sorry Bob I like your input but have to disagree this time. For me value works in this order:

If we had an Owen Power on our team, I don’t think we would want to trade him for a 10+M winger.

IMO Rangers have the best D and G in the league and they are my pick to win the cup, with close competition from VGK and COL. Can’t tell me that on paper, Tor doesn’t have a better offence than all 3 of these teams. But G and D are not on the same level and therefore we will be lucky to get out of the first couple rounds unless we make a trade for some good D.

Agree with all that Clarky. And maybe leafs included Lily the most. The two firsts on top is too much. Opinions vary right. Probably a moot point because power will not be traded and neither will Nylander. Leafs have one difficult cap year and that’s next season. Cap will go up next year and the year after. Nylander hit will be absorbed by Tavares discount (or gone) in 2025.

Power will be a top pairing defenseman, also is currently making 916 K. It would take a pkg. Nylander in Buffalo adds excitement with his offensive flare. That entertainment puts bums in the seats, in Toronto that is not an issue regardless of the player. The core 4 could be gone tomorrow Leafs still sellout, not true of a Buffalo, Arizona & some other NHL markets. Nylander is worth more to teams wanting to potentially increase attendance, than he is too the Leafs that is why he walks at end of season.

Nylander (signed) and a 1st maybe.
Powers is a LHD while Liljegren is a RHD.
We need Liljegren as Power’s future partner so no way he should be included.
Perhaps substitute Niemala?
Nylander plus two 1st when Leafs have next to no draft picks left after Dubas cleaned the cupboard is too expensive for Leafs future to absorb.

Have to take into account that Nylander has a 10 team NT list and Buffalo is likely among them.
