Other than Vancouver, I was thinking if a place Rielly may waive his No move for. Maybe Seattle. Close to home and they are a solid team with some good young players and vets.

3 team deal as I couldn't see a trade that works for both teams just the two of them.

Sea
Rielly $7.5M(Tor)
Barron $.775M(Utah-contract dump)

Utah
Tanev $3.5M(Sea)
Burakovsky $5.5M(Sea)
Robertson $.875M(Tor)

Tor
Crouse $4.3M(Utah)
Nyman ELC(Sea)

Seattle picks up a top 4 LD in Rielly signed with term. Yes, he is on a down year, but maybe a change of scenery revives his game. They take on Barron as a contract dump.

Utah gets an energy guy who likes to hit and can still put up some points. Burakovsky hasn't really found a groove in Seattle, but could in Utah. Robertson gives them another young guy who can score.

Toronto picks up a Berube style LW in Crouse with term who can produce and PK. Nyman is a very good left shooting forward prospect who like to play RW. Leafs also clear about $4M in cap space, which could help them find a deadline replacement for Rielly.

Agree0 Disagree1

They can’t wait to replace Reilly . His replacement has to be here before or immediately when he’s traded. They aren’t deep enough on D.

Pettersson ($4.025) and Jokiharju ($3.1M) are both pending UFA's and likely available. Lauzon ($2M) may be available from Nash as well to name a couple possibilities.

You write off Reilly too fast he will be fine. Leafs need a top 6 forward and maybe a Luke Schenn type defenceman. Leafs are in the home and chilled out part of their schedule. Where as Columbus are desperate for points that’s what happened last night. Leafs coming off a tough statement game with Tampa and they just were not ready for Columbus. Columbus would be the best matchup for Toronto in first round of playoffs

This is best leaf team I have ever seen now go out and get Miller and have Vancouver pay 50 % I, timing the canucks 1 first a second and Niemela. I would then trade max Domi to, ake the math work. That’s big upgrade miller for Domi.

Actually weathremac, I am not writing off Rielly, I just put out a trade prop to a place where I think he might waive to go to if he does get traded.

As for Miller, I have no desire for him and have said that for quite a while. Bringing a guy in that is not in the right head space or has serious off-ice issues is not the best idea for a team hoping to contend. Ironically, I think it is off-ice stuff that has Rielly not all-in on hockey right now, which is something else I said here quite a while ago.

I agree with RLF and I’m all for getting rid of Reilly but Seattle already has their top 4 D. But I’m all for getting JT Miller if there is a possibility with Reilly in the trade.

Like the trades
Clear space to pickup Andersson from the Flames.

An awful lot of ‘ifs’ and ‘maybes’.
A change of environment is not a panacea though it can sometimes give a player a motivational bump to prove the team that traded them was wrong.
But usually they slide back to being the player they have long been.
Reilly is currently a (-16) and barely a 3rd pairing defender in the NHL.
Not sure any NHL team would want him at $7.5 million per year with at least 4 or 5 more years to run.

Leafs ending up with Crouse in exchange for Reilly would be a dream come true.

WB49. If Rielly slides back to the player he has long been, then that is a top pair D. He may have never been a true #1D, but he was easily a #2. Hoq would that be bad for Seattle?

Seems to me that at this point, Berube style of play doesn't suit him. As the system progresses, maybe he suits it more. Only time will tell. He also needs to concentrate on hockey more. Imo.
