I like this idea if Mitch wants to leave and the 8 yrs. Vegas would have to shed salary and I'd love Barbashev or Karlsson. Karlsson fills an immediate need at center.

They also don't have to give the leafs a thing and just sign him for 7 yrs. I'm just throwing out a hypothetical question if they could get a roster player or pick for that 8th yr of a contract.

Marner has a young wife and a new baby to think about.
I just don’t see Vegas as being a suitable environment for him to raise his family.
I can’t see Marner going to Vegas unless the money they offer is ridiculously more than everyone else who will be bidding on his services.

There will not be a sign and trade . If a team wants him they’ll wait until he’s a UFA. The eighth year means nothing .

The sign and trade would be because a team wants Marner but doesn't have the cap space, so they are willing to move a decent player and his cap hit to be able to bring in Marner who they see as an upgrade. It's possible. Imo.

As RLF gracefully said the sign and trade would only really work for a team that has to dump cap space Vegas is a team that marner has rumoured to want to play for and if anyone in the nhl is gonna make a move like this it’s Vegas.

Why would Marner want to take his young wife and new baby and raise his family in Las Vegas?
Not exactly a prime child rearing environment!
That would seem to me to be the last place he would want to go?
