Let's say Florida does want to bring back at least 2 of Bennett, Marchand and Ekblad. Right now, they have $19M in cap space. They only have 10 forwards, 5 D and 1 goalie signed atm. As we know they need cap space. If Bennett re-signs that takes up their 1-2 C position. What about Lundell?

Florida clears $5M in cap space. They could try Luostarinen at 3C. Cowan gives them a top Forward prospect. Holmberg should be cheap enough to resign and can fill a bottom 6 role.

Toronto gets a 23 year old C that already has 2 Cups and could be their future 2C, but is at least a very good 3C atm. He doesn't mind the physical game and is a good 2 way player. Has the size the Leafs like at 6'1" 195lbs. At $5M for 4 seasons, he will likely be a value contract.

So you wanna trade the 1 true prospect the organization has for a 3c. Well at least it's on brand for Toronto.

Lundell is a former 12th OA pick and not quite 24. So, not quite 4 years older than Cowan. Just put up 45 points last season. Scored 37 of those points at even strength. Plus 18 pts in 23 games this playoffs and 17 in 24 last playoffs. Obviously ups his game in the playoffs. He plays both PP and PK. Solid on the dot. He doesn't play sheltered minutes. As I said, could be the Leafs future (or now) 2C, but is already at least a very good 3C. He could make signing JT redundant, unless JT wants to take less money to stay.

Cowan is likely topping out as a middle 6 forward and not likely a C at the NHL level. We can only HOPE Cowan ends up as good as Lundell is already.

Overvaluing Leafs prospects and not knowing much about other teams players is also on brand for Leafs fans I guess.

I really like this proposal.
Cowan projects as an energy, 2nd line LW.
Lundell fill Leafs greatest need (center) and can take over as Tavares’s replacement as Leafs 2nd line center of the future.
He has winning pedigree with two Cups, plays with Physicality and has offensive chops.
Fire this off to Treliving’s office as he will obviously NEVER think of this.
