I think if Leafs could have acquired Rust for Robertson and a 2nd, the deal would have been done back in the summer.
I would imagine Dubas is holding out for either Cowan or Danford in a Rust or Rakell trade.
That would be a bad deal for the Leafs as Rust and Rakell are both 33 years old.
Leafs have no picks and next to no prospects.
Trading what little youth Leafs have left for players approaching their mid 30s (Schenn, Rust, Rakell) is the kind of mistakes that got them into this mess in the 1st place.
