Toronto signs Pietrangelo for 8.5 x 7. Front load bonuses.
Toronto trades Anderson, Johnson and Dermott to Calgary for Bennett and 1st round pick(2020).
Toronto trades Kerfoot and 3rd round pick(2021) to Ottawa for Chris Tierney.
Toronto trades Nylander to Carolina for Wayne Foegle, prospect right Defense man Joey Keane and 1st round pick(2020).
Clears cap space and brings some grit

Do you mind elaborating on why they say no IJ? Or is it just more refutation by fiat as usual?
All trades look good in terms of value, but the team needs don’t appear to be met.
Pluses for Calgary: upgrade in goal, Andersen and Johnsson have higher AAV than real salary paid, and Dermott is an excellent candidate to replace one of their half dozen UFA defensemen if they decide not to re-sign any.
Negatives to Calgary: Johnsson is the wrong side shot. They desperately need a RS forward. They only have two right now. Dermott is a bottom four defenseman that could be redundant if Calgary decides to re-sign ufa’s. They lose a 1st, which no one player in this deal is worth alone. They add a lot of salary. They don’t get back adequate replacement for Bennett.
Trade 2: Ottawa takes a slight downgrade at centre, but gain a player whose cap hit is higher than actual salary (Ottawa loves those types) . Tierney likely will make at least the same or more as Kerfoot, so they save both cap space and money. Plus they get the third. I think Ottawa would jump on this.
Trade 3: Seems to heavily favor Carolina. Foegle is good, but nowhere as good as Nylander. Keane is an ok prospect, but Fleury is better, and Bean is much better. The 1st would be nice, but not needed since we would already have two 1sts at this point. We don’t need another. Other than saving cap space, There is nothing here to directly benefit Leafs, meanwhile Carolina gets Nylander.
These trades don’t make Leafs a better team. We downgrade wing (heavily), slightly upgrade 3C, and downgrade goal. The only benefit, as you point out, is the cap space we receive to sign Pietrangelo. I don’t think it’s worth it to gut the rest of the team for him.
