Well since we are all making make a wish foundation trade suggestions. Here is my blockbuster. It can work as a retool and as a rebuild.
We trade:
Matthews
Knies
To: Boston Both guys have said they love playing there and they being U.S. guys would be treated like gods.
We Get:
James Hagens
Fraser Minten (Never wanted to see him go)
Matt Poitras
Mark Kastelic. (Someone that keeps everyone honest)
Both Boston's 1sts this year (Our Original one back with Minten lol)
Then... We trade Stolarz and the other Boston pick to Philly in return for our 1st rounder in 2027 we traded them for Laughton.
Then guess what? We now can do offer sheets for anyone we want as a RFA because we now have our original pick for 2027 back in our grasp to utilize for compensation. Not to mention our salary cap is enormous by now having the 2 big contracts gone.
It's a crazy deal that might sadden some but it would certainly change the look of the team in a hurry. With Hagens and Minten you have 2 centres coming back and Minten can also play the wing. Put Kastelic and Joshua on a line with Steven Lorentz and you have a line that would have guys on the ice looking over their shoulders when the puck goes in the corner.

That haul doesn’t get Matthews alone in my eyes. If anything at most that offer could pull Matthews alone if the Leafs are out of options.

Trading him to a division rival would be a tredeadthing thing to do
The most clueless GM in the league.

In the NHL there is no such thing anymore about not trading to division rivals. It's about finding the pieces each team needs. Division rival or not. Treliving would be too stubborn to try and get back his traded away draft picks.

Is this a serious posting site or a site for up and coming comedians? These trade proposals are very comical.

Like your comical proposal for targeting RFA's with traded draft picks you wanted to trade for?

Honest mistake but cmon look at what u r proposing here. A 23yr old stud and an elite 1C who has topped 60g twice already for that? Most underwhelming trade to date for those players.

This is obviously a Rumour (Fantasy trade suggestion) site. So let's look at from your view.... 60 goals 2 times (No disputing that). Now say this was contract negotiating time.... as a prudent GM (Hopefully they find one soon, you would be looking at the player as one that scored 33 last year and on pace for 32 this year had ne not been injured. Is Knies a Stud or is he a 60 -65 point guy . Time will tell.
What we are getting is not that bad of a haul in return. Minten was a 1st round pick and is in the top 7 in Rookie Scoring and of all the Rookies is the concensus best 2 way player of the group.
Hagens is a 1st round pick already being talked about as a Rookie of the year contender for next year if he signs with the Bruins this year.
Poitras was a 2nd round pick and is just stuck in a numbers game in Boston. But would crack the Leafs lineup.
Kastelic would make every guy on the Leafs feel and play bigger knowing he is present in the lineup. Not to mention the dude can play, my son in law watched him in Ottawa and said he has good hands and is capable of scoring 15 a year quite easy with the right linemates.
Then we have the 2 first round picks.... One which was ours and would be again. Which would net a decent player. A great one if we were smart enough to stop winning meaningless games.
The other 1st round pick that we would trade to Philly with Stolarz would allow us to Offer sheet Jason Robertson.
So the final tally would be us losing Matthew and Knies.
Then Gaining: Minten, Hagens, Poitras, Kastelic, a good prospect from this years draft maybe capable of cracking the lineup this year but for sure the following year and possibly Jason Robertson or the like, (I think Robertson would still be the target given Dallas Salary situation), and still money left over to pursue a good UFA D-man like Rasmus Andersson or Jamie Oleksiak
I would take losing those 2 guys to fill 6 spots with quality players and a good prospect.

TL;DR. We would keep Suffering if you were the GM for a very very long time.
