First thing, Leafs need to do is lose the rest of their games if they want to have any chance at retaining their 1st rd pick this year. Secondly, Nylander and Matthews not getting traded no matter who the new GM or Coach will be. Thirdly, Rielly, Domi, Joshua, Maccelli, Robertson, Carlo, Benoit and Stolarz are your trade aways. Finally, you retool with Tavares, Matthews, Knies, Nylander, Cowan, Tanev, OEL and McCabe. You give Groulx, Quillan, Haymes, Villeneuve, Danford a chance to crack the lineup.

Woll and Hildeby your goalies. Anyone Trev ? brought in or gave a bad contract to needs to go. I would keep Stecher as an extra fill in at league minimum. Send Myers packing as well. Smart hirings for executive positions and coaching will be detrimental to the retool. Smart trades FA signings and drafting will determine if this team gets back to their winning ways next season. I truly believe they r not far off from being relevant and a top 5 team with the right additions and subtractions.

So you prefer a poor GM and coach for a rebuild?

2.) 08 Apr 2026 22:44:06
I'm confused a bit here. So yes, I agree with a lot of the players that need to go and be replaced.

But what do you mean by "Smart hirings for executive positions and coaching will be detrimental to the retool."

Is that what you truly mean? So if we hire stupid people for executive positions and coaching, how is that going to help the retool? Or this a satirical post?

3.) 09 Apr 2026 11:30:22
I believe he meant to say "advantageous." At least I hope that's what he meant.

4.) 09 Apr 2026 12:45:34
How could the two words be mixed up?

5.) 09 Apr 2026 13:56:10
I know the word he was looking for. The first part of that word could be a Guitar or a Piano. :o)

UFA targets.

Tuch, Andersson, Marchment, Ferraro.
Dickinson, Raddysh (if not an overpay). Retool.
Stock your picks and fill your prospect pool with them. You can also use them to make trades. IMO Nylander or Matthews are going nowhere. Rielly is the piece of the core that will go.

I’m okay with most of this.
Similar to what I proposed a few weeks back.
The trades focus on ‘26 and ‘27 while I focused more on D+1 or 2 to shorten the retool.
The UFAs are essentially the same except I also cited Mantha and not Dickinson.
I think Robertson also deserves a 2nd.

2.) 03 Apr 2026 19:40:58
My thought for a Robertson trade is to add to a deal to turn a 2nd into a 1st.

3.) 03 Apr 2026 20:11:35
I would try
Rielly ($1M retained)
For
Bystedt ELC

Bystedt can be a solid 3C, with good size (6'3") and 210lbs.

I can't see Tuch not resigning with Buffalo. He's from that area. I'm sure he's gonna take a discount especially after this year.

5.) 04 Apr 2026 07:31:35
Conceptually I would agree Hrnklin but I’d like to see that deal first.

I’m sure the Sabres would like to and intend on resigning Tuch but they will have a challenge in that regard.

They are at $88m with 6 UFAs and 3 RFAs so money could be tight.

Has next year’s cap been announced? $100m?

6.) 04 Apr 2026 10:33:54
$104m cap next season. The way I see it, with Tuch, if he can’t sign in Buffalo cause he prices himself out, what’s the next closest thing, a border crossing to stay close lol. But I don’t want to overpay for him either.

7.) 04 Apr 2026 10:36:57
I was going to add Carlo to the mix in a deal, but he’s an RD. I think at his cap hit, u keep him and see where you are at at next year's deadline b4 making a decision. If he has a bounce back year and u r in the playoffs u keep him; if not, cup team will take him for their own run.

8.) 04 Apr 2026 12:33:56
Hey RandySears, I hope your European vacation was a good one. I agree with you in regards to Buffalo being in a Salary Cap bind. Tuch wants 10.5 apparently and they are offering a couple million shy of that. Just think if they still didn’t have just over $2 mil on the books for Jeff Skinner, that would solve that. The problem then lays in filling the rest of those RFA and UFA spots. Some you let walk, but others, like Logan Stanley, you want to keep.

The names that keep coming up to trade for gaining cap room is Josh Norris (tough contract to trade with his 10 team list and his propensity in his career for injuries).

The other 2 names are one of either Owen Power or Bowen Byram only because neither have no trade clauses and both are desirable pieces. Question is which one would you want to keep, and could you get a good cheaper ELC player in return to fill a spot and ope Cap money. If Tuch does sign elsewhere, somehow they still need to replace his production.

9.) 04 Apr 2026 16:17:29
Carlo is a bakdaid tho! Trade him this summer while he has any value. Which he should have being a big RHD that’s come off a couple down years but at an excellent cap point and is still considered top pair player? I worry he gets another concussion he’s done.

10.) 04 Apr 2026 17:04:01
With the amount of concussions Carlo has had, I worry for him first and foremost as a person later in life more than as a trade value player in the present.

Ducks need a solid backup for Dostal, plus have 3 FAs on RD position. Solves both their problems with this trade.

Leafs get very good value for both players. Second trade: Rielly reunites with Dubas in Pitt. We get Karlsson, older D, less term, higher aav, hence the 2nd rd pick for not asking retention. I believe SJS is another destination for Rielly cause they have no one on the left side except Orlov. Hence a good return

Champishere2627

1.) 19 Mar 2026 01:40:24
Reilly for Karlsson and you expect Pittsburgh to throw in a 2nd for us not asking for retention. lol lol lol Pittsburgh would not throw in a 2nd and to be honest would probably want Toronto to toss in a draft pick and take retention on Reilly. Honestly dude look at the two players. Karlsson is comfortable in Pittsburgh system now and is one of the hottest players in the NHL. 16 points in his last 10 games.

He still is smooth as silk and hardly looks like he is skating when he blows past people and his defensive game is top notch now. Reilly has lost a step and it's sad because I always liked him and he is a class act. But Pittsburgh would need a huge deal even with his contract to get Karlsson away from them, because Letang has lost a step too and they need Karlsson.

If I’m trading Willy these r the returns I’m wanting if I’m the GM. If this is not on the table you keep him. With the 1st rd picks coming back u can now offer sheet some elite RFAS to fill in holes on D at C or RW. Gauthier Carlsson Zellweger Mintyukov. Nemec Fantilli Clarke. To name some.

Champishere2627

1.) 17 Mar 2026 15:17:51
I like the first 2 deals. The last one not so fond of as I don't think Musty is that great a return.

Regarding turning those first round picks into RFA's, that won't work. To offer a deal for a RFA, your compensation has to be your own original draft picks, not picks acquired from another team.

2.) 21 Mar 2026 15:53:28
None of these should come close to Nylander. Somehow Nylander is underrated.

Matthews going to resign in a few years b4 his contract is up and McDavid will sign as an FA to play with him. Then let the dynasty to begin. Leafs new management will align the team and cap space to make sure it happens. So everyone Matthews not going anywhere. All I have to say.

Champishere2627

1.) 18 Apr 2026 21:08:31
So who else other than Matthews is going to Entice McCavid to sign with Toronto?

27 Mar 2026 20:50:33
More of a comment on our Managemrnt and the big mistakes that were made at last years trade deadline giving away 2 1st rd picks for duds. If he wouldn’t have panicked and kept them. This summer he could have grabbed a serious RFA with an offer sheet.

Look at who’s available it’s mind blowing. Carlsson, Gauthier, Bedard, Robertson, Fantilli, Clarke, Edvinsson, Nemec. It’s crazy. I’m sure if Armstrong was our GM last year he would have seen it and not done what Trev ? did.

Hindsight is 20/20. Always easy after the fact to analyse. At the time most people were pumped we won the Laughton sweepstakes as they referred to it at the time. Even some were excited with the Carlo trade. I wasn't as I was and still am a Minten fan and hated to see him go. No-one was panicking as much at the trade deadline because they thought Marner was also not going to leave. So yeah it was a overpay, but we weren't the only teams trying to get both of those players, so who knows.

My problem with Treliving was not as much those picks and yes they have hurt us huge, but his inability to chase any real worthwhile free agents or to address the Reilly issue. It's not like Reilly suddenly went downhill, it has been a progression and last summer would have been better to have done a trade than for another year of him declining and now we have a player we almost have to give away or use as a throw in on a trade to get rid of that Contrract.

2.) 27 Mar 2026 22:26:28
Hindsight is definitely 20/20. I liked the Carlo trade, but was never a fan of Laughton. I change my mind on both of those (although an overpay for Laughton).

3.) 28 Mar 2026 11:47:03
It is only a mistake because of how this year has gone and hoe last year ended. If the Leafs had of beat Florida and made it to the Conference final (which they were one win away) and this year not been a mess, hardly anyone is complaining about those trades.
Also, lots talking about offer sheets. They are so rare. It's not like it was definite the Leafs would do them if they had the asset compensation. Most GM's have never offer sheeted a player.

Historically speaking, it is highly unlikely the Leafs would offer sheet anyone. That goes for all teams.
As for Rielly, yes, it would be nice to move on. He has a full NMC. He controls what happens and has said int he past he wants to stay. Unless that changes, Leafs are stuck with him because you can't send him to the minors either. It's either he accepts being moved or he is bought out.

4.) 30 Mar 2026 09:04:51
Throwing the idea of offer sheets is a stretch. It’s so uncommon for those to happen. If you want to know where this all fell apart I’d say Tavares first year with the Leafs…. They overpaid for a guy right before the big 3 were up for deals and I think they all used JT’s contract as leverage.

Then I’ll go back to trading Kadri at 4.5 mill per for a bag of pucks. They had Matthews Tavares and Kadri up the middle. Let that sink in. The Leafs then struggled to draft well and neglected the blueline for most of Matthews and Marners and Nylander youthful years that’s where this went wrong to me and now with money hungry Rogers running the show it’s hard to see this team doing what they need to to become the team that can be competitive again but we will see.

To me the first moves are simple fire Berube and the entire coaching staff. Then move Brad to president seems more like a business guy then a hockey guy then bring in Jim Nill and Cassidy just my opinion tho

5.) 30 Mar 2026 19:14:58
I was so incredibly ? nted after last season's deadline. My top price on either of those pieces would've been a second. I would've rathered us do nothing. But I was in the minority and there would've been people calling for his head had he stayed pat last year.
