Leafs goaltending is fine, they don't need a change there but they do need an upgrade on defense.

Tor- Gardiner, Soshnikov, Tor 3rd 2017
Win- Trouba

Tor- Bozak, Leipsic, Loov
Ana- Fowler

Reilly-Trouba
Fowler-Zaitsev
Marincin-Carrick

With the expansion draft zaitsev and carrick are exempt and we can protect reilly, toruba and fowler.

Offence is scoring 4 goals a game. they are fine.

There's this new fad sweeping the NHL. It's called statistics. And using this new fangled data, it's pretty easy to figure out that Gardiner is a better dman than Trouba. I understand Gards gets a lot of hate, and given the glaring mistakes he seems to make at the wrong times, I can sympathize. However, he's still a better dman than Trouba. Now I can't speak to trouba's potential. Maybe he will be a better dman years down the road, but right now he isn't, and these deals offering Gardiner++ are an overpayment, and don't really make the leafs a better team.

I think that the Ducks and Leafs will eventually make a trade for one of their young defenders. I don't see the Jets and Leafs as good trading partners TBH

You can not judge a player just based on the stat sheet. Gardiner has all the tools to be a good player but for some reason can figure it out between the ears. You are blinded if you think a piece of paper can tell you what you need to know about a player. Gardiner has a knack of turnovers in lethal places and outmaned on puck battles.

Turnover is bad places that lead to goals or good scoring opportunities can shift the momentum of a game in a instant. Just because he gets off the ice after he makes a mistake and leaves others to clean it up (take the defensive zone faceoff or odd man rush) does not make him a good defenseman since the "statisticians" say so.

I'm so sick of this. Yeah Gardiner has great skating ability and a decent set of hands but ship him out if we can and get a reliable defenseman with offensive potential.

I'm fine with trading Gardiner, just not for Trouba. Personally I'd see Gards shipped out AFTER something like one of the ANA trades to bring in a fowler or Theodore or Lindholm. Without a solid 2nd pairing LD to replace him, trading Gardiner makes the leafs worse, not better. Hunwick/Marincin are 3rd pairs at best, and the kids aren't ready to step up yet.

Also, in regards to WPG, instead of trying to get problem child Trouba, how about trying to remove one of the roadblocks keeping him from getting his "deserved playing time." What kind of package would it take to get Myers?
That's something i'd be more than happy to ship out Gards for

I don't think trading Bozak would help the leafs as he is playing 1st line and Matthews 2nd so I would find a pretty good and valuable trade for Kadri
