Interesting watching the Leafs recent moves. Expect Freddy to bounce back nicely in Carolina, career #'s would indicate such. Mrazek career #'s suggest more of the same, mid range but not elite level goaltending. After watching tbe Leafs struggle with letting a proven backup go in Curtis McElhinney, they now do the same with their starting position for a savings of 700 K. Lou would have had Nylander @ 6 million & Marner & Matthews @ 8 or 9 million. Pivotal mistakes made by Dubas have handicapped the team, they will miss the playoffs & draft in the top 5 next year & begin the rebuild. Shannahan, Dubas & Keefe will be fired. Leafs spent decades gambling on their goaltending position, big mistake then as it is now.

2022 / 2023 under new Leaf management, Tavares & Nylander wave tbeir no trade clauses.

Matthews to Philadelphia for four 1st rd draft choice in 2022, 2023, 2024 & 2025.

Marner to Columbus for three first rd choices in 2022,2023 & 2024

Tavares to the Rangers for two first rd draft choices in 2022 & 2023

Nylander to Chicago for two 1st rd draft choices in 2022 & 2023

Muzzin & Brodie to Calgary for a 1st & 2nd rd pick in 2022.

Leafs would have 6 picks in the 1st rd of the 2022 NHL draft & 2 picks in the 2nd rd, and able to parlay picks to get 2 of the top 5 draft choices or say 3 of the top 10 picks in the draft.

Leafs would have 5 picks in the 1st rd of the 2023 draft, again able to parlay picks to attempt to get 2 of top 5 selections.

Leafs would have 3 first rd picks in 2024 & 2 more first rd picks in 2025. So a total of 16 first rd picks in 4 drafts.

Fill in the roster in 2022 / 2023 & 2023 / 2024 with UFA's. By 2025 / 2026 team would be a Cup contender.

The whole "What would Lou do" is an interesting debate without an answer. I'm not sure if Mathews would have ever taken less. He just doesn't strike me as the type of guy to do so.

Marner can probably be brow beaten by Lou.

Nylander just plays in Europe. I honestly don't think Nylander woul have cared as much as the rest of us like to think he would. He isn't a poor kid who struggled his entire life. He grew up watching his dad make a tonne of money and he seemed comfortable to sit out.
