If Nylander really wants to push for big money it might be time to move him. Heard he would like LA.

Would love to have Byfield but that money wouldn’t work out for LA. They would have to move salary out and Byfield makes peanuts still.

Byfield would be perfect as he could take over the 2nd line center position when Tavares’s contract expires at the end of next season.

Though Leafs could retain 50% of Nylander’s $6.9M dollar salary this season and a 3rd party could probably be found to retain half of the balance, the big problem would occur next summer when LA has to resign Nylander to a massive $11 +/ - contract.
After signing Pierre Luc Dubois to an $8.5 million dollar contract and resigning Gavrikov to a $5.875 deal this summer, next summer there won’t be enough cap space left to resign Willie to a massive deal.

Although it is LAs problem to fit in Nylander after this year. The cap is going up and Kopitars salary is going down 3 mil. It means they may have to trade a middling winger in the off season, but LA has to be worried that they couldn’t score on a Toronto team that leaks goals so easily.
