This suggestion came out of me Questioning a Suggested Trade of Reilly for Nurse and the other poster talking about toughness needed. I consider Nurse to be .....how would I put it....not one of the smarter players for his hits and toughness. However......if we truly want toughness on our Blueline and for the other team to pay the price in our tend. Lets Target Jeremy Lauzon on Vegas as a Free agent.

He was only making $2 mil and I think he would be fully worth every penny at $3.5 or $4.0 with additional bonus clause for game played. It might take more money because he was earning that $2 million in 2 tax free places in Nashville and Vegas. This guy is 134th in the NHL for career hits and has only played 380 games. That is crazy impressive, he is at an average of just over 3.5 hits a game.

Lauzon or Logan Stanley would be great targets. Get rid of Benoit, Carlo and Reilly if he waives. Sign one of those 2. Try for Raddysh, Andersson or possibly Trouba. I'd keep Stecher for 3rd pairing.

Much better suggestions than trading our best players… So dumb. Leafs haven’t had a problem scoring. We’ve spent a decade finding someone to play with Reilly instead of realizing he’s a number 2. Trade him for a possible young (maybe #1) or keep him and demote him. Nurse and Reilly are interchangeable. Swapping them doesn’t solve the problems, just changes them.

Like I have said in the past. I think that Reilly is a great classy guy. Have met him a few times away from the rink and left thinking "What a great role model for kids." But... here is the huge but I hate about Pro Sports.... It is not longer a game it is a business once you sign that contract. Perhaps the strategy to get him to move is put him on a consistent basis in the bottom six and every once in a while to put a Danford or a Chadwick or Villeneuve in the lineup and he approaches management and says "I will waive my no trade contract ...

let's sit down and figure out who wants me and maybe we can do something." Every NHL player has their limit with Pride and still wants to play every game. Sometimes you need to be a bit of a hardline GM to find out how far to push them to realize that.

Stanley or Lauzon definitely not the answer to fixing the Leafs D. No thank you. Raddysh will get overpaid, no thanks. Anderson, if Vegas doesn’t retain him, will get overpaid. Trouba is on the wrong side of 30, so no thank you.

We have enough 30+ d; we need to inject some younger guys. If u are keeping OEL, McCabe and Tanev, you need guys that can move the puck and make plays. Those guys can’t. Raddysh is a one season wonder.

I never said Lauzon was the fix to the Leafs, just that he is one free agent that is affordable that fits the need of what we need on the blue line. One piece at a time. There is no guarantee that Tanev will bounce back enough after surgery to continue his career. If you have played the game you know that knocking a man off the puck with a hit and getting the puck out of the zone like Lauzon is adept at, is still moving the puck and making a play.

It isn't always just the points. Lauzon is still only 28 years old and has another good 5 to 6 years left.
