Tor: Reilly and 2nd or Robertson

Van: Hornek

LeafsGM78

1.) 24 May 2026 10:51:30
After losing Quinn Hughes, I don’t see why the Canucks would consider trading their next best defenseman, Hronek.
Especially for Morgan Rielly who will not help Vancouver keep the puck out of their own net.

2.) 24 May 2026 16:08:41
I don’t think Vancouver cares. They aren’t going anywhere for a few years; they get a similar player, home town guy, plus Robertson if needs be, and that might increase ticket sales. I also read an article about this very scenario an hour after I posted this lol.

Draft day trade

Tor Reilly

TB. Raddysh with agreement to extend in Toronto

LeafsGM78

1.) 13 May 2026 00:43:53
If they could afford Reilly's contract, don't you think Tampa would keep Raddysh?

2.) 13 May 2026 00:48:30
Because Toronto is so awesome I figured Raddysh would automatically come here rather than stay.

11 May 2026 01:55:25
Matthews Robertson 2nd for Kucherov.

LeafsGM78

1.) 11 May 2026 02:36:09
Makes no sense for Toronto.

10 May 2026 21:21:51
Would anyone else do the Nurse for Reilly swap?

I’m thinking Nurse and a 2 or 3rd for Reilly.

LeafsGM78

1.) 10 May 2026 22:40:53
Nurse is useless.

2.) 10 May 2026 23:01:19
So is Reilly

3.) 10 May 2026 23:33:54
While Reilly has lost a step, he is still a much brighter hockey mind on the ice than Nurse. Nurse makes horrible mistakes time after time after time. They both have bad contracts right now but if I was given a choice of keeping Reilly or getting Nurse even with the draft pick I would keep Reilly.

4.) 10 May 2026 23:41:59
Fair enough, I was looking at Nurse bring a physical element who’d drop the gloves and has offensive skills but I understand your point.

5.) 11 May 2026 00:13:00
He fights, yes... but has a reputation of fighting at the most inappropriate times of a game.

First shout out to RLF, sorry for highjacking your post and sorry to everyone else for misusing the platform to rant.

So here one that I think has been out there.

Toronto trade Woll to Minny for Wallsted and a 2nd.

I know Stolarz is the better trade bait, but I have a problem fundamentally with Woll and Minnesota has a number of young goalies so easy digest. Not sure if how far they get now influences this. At 23 he’s gained my
Attention.

LeafsGM78

1.) 10 May 2026 17:36:01
All good LeafsGM.

2.) 10 May 2026 18:03:15
Minny would ask
“Why are you sending me this proposal?
It makes no sense “

3.) 10 May 2026 18:59:59
If you say so.

4.) 10 May 2026 20:56:33
Explain the deal then leafsgm
Justify why Minny would consider it?

5.) 10 May 2026 21:27:27
I agree with Golftown. Would Minnesota even consider this LeafsGM? You do realize that Wallstedt is literally now the #1 goalie in Minnesota now right?

6.) 10 May 2026 22:40:38
I think they are in a similar position as us. They have an older, more experienced goalie signed to a higher cap hit who is only three years older and in his prime. Wally, on the other hand, isn’t overly experienced — 40 career games and it’s a really small sample size at this point and his contract expires at the end of next year and could be in for a raise plus they have five other goalies in there system.

So he’s kind of the more tradable out of the two and would get a bigger return out of it. Like is said how their playoffs go might dictate if this is even possible but I think Woll brings more experience is already under a good contract and is in the same ball park age wise. I don’t consider Wally a true #1 yet and he will probably be too expensive to tandem with where as Wolls salary is doable for a tandem.

7.) 10 May 2026 23:40:49
Minny doesn't have to worry about him being too expensive for another year. He isn't a RFA until then. By then they will know what situation works best for them. At that point it might be Gustafsson that wants to be moved.

Right now they have 2 goaltenders better than any of ours so it doesn't make sense for them to move anyone unless it is a mindblowing deal. Woll and a 2nd is not that big of a offer for either of those goalies.

8.) 10 May 2026 23:45:08
Ya, I was looking at this for down the road, assuming they talk extension next season, the number might be higher than they can afford, that’s all, just a hypothetical.

So what do the Leafs do well? Very little. The media surrounding this team is why we don’t win cups. We can’t recruit top end players cause nobody wants to be here under the microscope. What we can do is fire Craig. As much as I love him, the stars on this team were way better with a run and gun style. Freedom to be creative worked.

If you can get a first for McMann or OEL then perhaps makes sense, but you still have to replace whatever you give up and it’ll cost more than keeping them. Beyond that I don’t have an issue with this team.

Nobody is up the Panthers a** about missing the playoffs because of the injuries. Well the Leafs have had the same luck. How many more games would we have won with Tanev, Nylander, both goalies not missing time? I think they need a new coach and GM, play the kids from here on in and sign a top six guy like Tuck and stop trying to find a guy to play with Morgan. Either get rid of him or sign a UFA top tier defender and move him down the line up.

To sum it up this team is fine, just players in the wrong spot, bad luck and missing a piece or two.

1.) 03 Mar 2026 23:57:43
@Lgm Although I agree Berube probably needs to go and I still liked the hiring, who can "Run N' Gun" now? They are old and slow.

2.) 04 Mar 2026 12:41:39
I pretty much agree with what you are saying as I wrote much the same including the Panthers part a little while ago. The part I am not with you on is the run and gun like LL said. It has not worked when the playoffs have rolled around. Leafs aren't the only ones who have played that style without playoff success.

Management has to make some serious decisions about the star makeup of this team. Rielly obviously needs a change of scenery and they have to decide whether Matthews and Nylander are a pair they think they can win with or does one of them (or both) need to go.

3.) 04 Mar 2026 12:50:29
@RLF, Move in from them both at this point and start rebuilding. Problem is Brad Treliving is the most boring GM in the league and has not made a significant move since he has been here. Doesn’t have the cohonas to pull it off.

4.) 04 Mar 2026 13:16:43
Clarky. Maybe he doesn't, or maybe there isn't anything on the table for anyone of significance that he wouldn't get ripped for.
I mean, if you were the GM of another team and saw how badly the stars on this team collapsed in game 5 and 7 last season, would you offer the moon for these guys?
You may say, just get what you can and start over, but if Tre does that, he will get roasted in the media and by the fans and be blamed for setting the organization back for years and years to come.

Geez guys I don't know if I were to trade Marner I it's a #1 goalie or a #1 d man and a 1st 2024 for me.
Honestly if possible sign Marner for 1-2 years 9.5 million and mortified no trade and say hey look that's 3 years to show up and get it done or we are done and if you don't perform at any time the leafs can say that's it where's your list

Leafs can't afford to lose him for nothing so either take this pay cut or waive your clause for a year and move on to Calgary or Nashville for instance Leafs gain assets makes it easier for Marner to walk away from whoever acquires him for UFA

LeafsGM78

1.) 06 Jun 2024 09:07:32
Who's is giving a #1D for Mitchy? This has always been the issue. #1D are some of the most difficult things to find in all of hockey, and you want them to hand one over for a sub 100pts winger making too much, as a rental?

2.) 06 Jun 2024 11:23:51
Why can’t we afford to lose a trade? . I would love to make sense of all this. Guys the whole point is to make your own team better, with Mitch in the team and this core we can’t get past the first round. Who the F cares if we lose the trade to make our team better? If we can get some help back in a trade for Mitch. great but we could also use the cap space to get the D, G and F depth we need. Seeing people suggest to bring Mitch back infuriates me. It’s like the last 8 years never happened. The absolute worst case scenario is Mitch plays out this contract but no way in hell would I hurt this teams chances again and resign him. Is there something that Im missing here or would people rather keep this core than lose a trade and stick to the 1st round exits?

3.) 06 Jun 2024 12:59:54
Why would Marner take a pay cut and only sign for 1 or 2 years to do so? He was willing to hold out on his last deal to get his $10.9M, can't imagine he takes a 1 or 2 year deal now for even less then before.

Best thing for the Leafs to do is trade him. Doubt they get a true 1D or top goalie, but should still get a solid return and some cap space.

They’ve never played an NHL game that’s a risky ask for the youngsters.

This is a solid idea for sure, I’d add another UFA defensemen to eat Reilly’s minutes until we see what we got.

Sorry, one more question for everyone: I counted 10 top 20 picks in this post. How many of those picks do you foresee being elite NHL players in the next three years?

Right now, yes I do. High draft picks aren’t guarantees. Nylander is better than Johnson
Matthews is better than Byfield right now, today. As for the defensive side, first can we agree the Leafs were and had been labeled an offensive-heavy team, which would suggest that the defence was the weaker side of the puck. So when I say investment I’m saying make it more complete, more skillful, more balanced, defined roles for players. Bottom line for me is blowing up this team the way guys are saying is maybe the team is better in five years.

What I’m saying is I’m not there yet because we haven’t iced the best most balanced team and we have that opportunity for at least next year. I say this because if you look at the fact we got a 1st round pick for Roy I can’t see Matthews or Nylander’s value dropping below that in the next two years even if their production is the same as last year.
