Red Wings still have scoring issues. Not saying Nylander would go there, but who knows.
Det
Nylander $11.5M
Tor
Edvinsson RFA
Rasmussen $3.2M
James $1.05M
Detroit has some good young D up and coming, but need scoring. Nylander will definitely help that. They have been going nowhere despite getting good picks etc, and could very well be looking for a big shakeup.
Leafs get a young top pairing D, take on Rasmussen and give him a chance to play more minutes and regain his game. James, I have mentioned in the past and is a good energy type guy who can also put up points.

Not a chance for me here. No way do I trade a consistent 40 goal play 80 game a year guy for positions it think we can fill without trade our 2nd best player.

Leafs could get wayy more for Nylander.

So need way more for Willy. Let me ask. Edvinsson is a 23 year old top pair 6'6" 225lb Dman that plays 22 mins a night, puts up 25-30 points a season, hits, blocks shots and will even fight.
Also have him under team control for a few years. How much much more is Nylander worth when Leafs are also getting a heavy playing 3rd line NHLer and a former 2nd round pick that may be NHL ready?

I agree with Gary Faulk. Nylander is worth more than that. Don't get me wrong, Edvinsson is a good one. But he is still roughly 40th-50th in defensemen rankings in the league and Nylander is still in the top 5 to 6 in the league for right wingers. Rasmussen played most of the year on Detroit's 4th line this year and finished the year with 0 points in his last 25 games. As far as James, he didn't exactly tear up the NCAA so what makes you feel he may be NHL ready, compared to some of the Leafs college signings of the past couple years?
I would do Nylander for Edvinsson, Carter Bear and a swap of Detroit's 1st in 2027 for our 1st we got from Colorado in 2027 and a extra conditional 2nd round pick in 2028 if Detroit finishes higher in the standings next year than the Leafs.

And where was Nylander ranked when he was 23? Willy didn't have a point per game season until 26. Not fair to compare Nylander in his prime to a 23 year old dman. He is a high end #2 dman already.
I said giving Ras more ice to help regain his form.
He was a better player and only 27.
As for James, he had 21 goals in 40 games in College then 2 goals in 2 games in the AHL. That said, he may be NHL ready because of how he plays the game, not to do with points. He plays a hard, responsible game.
