Leafs offseason
1- hire a gm. Mike futa is apprntly good so shanahan should go and get him.
2- hire a coach. Dan bylsma is apparently really good with the media and he's done well without much (see 2011 Pittsburgh w/o Malkin and Crosby) and then hire dale hunter and Adam Oates to b assistants, two solid assistants who make teams better.
3- predraft trades. (1) Montreal gets: LW joffrey lupul. Toronto gets: C lars eller, LW tum bozon and a 2016 3rd. Analysis: habs get a scoring winger they need, leafs get a talented but inconsistent forward in eller, a draft pick and a OK prospect w bozon.
(2) Dallas gets: D Dion phaneuf, D Tim erixon.
Toronto gets: D Trevor Daley, D Jamie oleksiak, the 12th pick and a 4th round pick. Analysis: the stars get the top pairing defenseman they want in phaneuf, who should thrive bc he's out of the spotlight, and a talented player in erixon, while the leafs get a OK cp dump in Daley, a young hulking defenseman in oleksiak a top prospect at #12 and a mid round pick.
4- draft day: round 1 (pick 4)- C- Dylan strome - Erie - OHL- great pick and the player they can build around for years to come, pretty much a no brainer.
Round 1-(pick 12- from Dallas) - LW/RW - timo Meier -Halifax- qmjhl- he would b an exciting player to watch with nylander and dylan strome for years to come.
Round 1(pick 25-from Nashville) D- oliver kylington- Sweden- talented smooth player who dropped, leafs get a steal.
5- day 2- devils get: C- Tyler bozak leafs get: picks 36 & 41 & C- miles wood. Analysis: leafs get two potentially solid prospects and a low level prospect for a 2c, leafs get the better part of the deal. They draft at 36: C- fillip chlapik- Charlottetown- qmjhl - solid prospect who plays like Tomas plekanec, at 41: D Matt spencer- Peterborough-ohl- solid 2way defenseman, adds to a deep prospect pool.
Round 3- G ilya Samsonov- Russia- the next Sergei bobrovsky may take a few years but will b worth it.
Round 4- C- Nathan noel and LW Adam marsh- saint John- qmjhl- the two linemates are two good players who fall a bit both are chippy they also get Jesse Gabrielle - LW in Brandon.
In round 5 they get slovak defenseman Erik cernak. And in 6 and 7 they get no names ( Gabrielle gagne is a 6-4 winger who has potential).
6- RFA and ufa signings.
RFA- kadri -4yr/17 million (4.25 per)
Bernier-4yr/16 million
Analysis: leafs get good value for both of these players as they go for more term less $$.
They resign kozun and Brennan to 2 way contracts
Ufa- LW tomas Fleischmann- 1yr/ 2.5 million. Another prove it deal, should b able to play top 6 minutes
7- the big trade: NY islanders get: RW Phil kessel, LW Tyler Biggs and D Roman polak.
Toronto gets: C/LW Ryan strome, D griffin reinhart, RW Michael grabner and C/W Michael dal colle. Analysis: its a clean trade 7 player blockbuster. The islanders get there top winger to play w tavares as well as a physical defenseman in polak. They give up 3 huge young pieces, as all of them will play huge roles w the leafs ( grabner is OK, but he's a cap dump), it may only happen on July 1, but it's still key for Toronto.
8- 2015-16 leafs. They also hire Sheldon Keefe as assistant coach for the marlies + some scout role, Sean Burke to b agm( goalie coach and a raise, and Joe niewndyk to replace Steve Kasper, and then field a team like this:

And that's how the leafs should at least try to stack up next year. They might be really bad, but it might b worth it

you got the really bad part right. Panik on second line is pretty bad

Shanny can't just go and get Futa - LA has to give permission for them to talk. And if you think the best criteria for the coach is that he be media friendly then you haven't the slightest idea what makes one a good coach nor what Toronto needs in a coach.
