Leafs are better off trading Bozak and keeping Jvr to start season

Leafs trade bozak and rychell

Rangers first round pick 2018

Leafs need futures they simply have too many bodies rychell will require waivers he can't make leafs out of camp

Due to this, Rychel may very likely make the Leafs out of camp over Kapanen. Kapenen can be sent down without waivers. If the Leafs move JVR, it will open up a spot for Leivo and Rychel to battle for.

Kapanen is more effective than both Leivo and Rychel and proved last season down the stretch and against Washington he is more than capable. No way the fact Rychel needs to clear waivers keeps him in Toronto. He will stay up as a spare but ultimately I think either he or Leivo will be moved.
23 man roster
Marleau-Matthews-Nylander
JvR-Bozak-Marner
Komarov-Kadri-Brown
Martin-Moore-Hyman

Rielly-Zaitsev
Gards-Hainsey
Marincin-Carrick

Anderson
McEhliney

Marchenko, Kapenen and Leivo

Ben Smith and Eric Fehr will be with the Marlies, they'll have no trouble clearing waivers.

The only thing wrong with this trade is the Leafs aren't receiving anything, if this happens Leafs likely got to move Marleau to the middle, or Komarov which breaks up that shut down line. If Hyman moves to the middle he's playing between Marner and JvR that's probably not the best option. So unless something coming back that can plug into the roster I don't see why trading Bozak right now makes sense. JvR I feel is the best option for the Leafs to trade they'll feel that pain a lot less.

Rielly and Zaitsev got broke up near the end of the season and it's likely they will stay apart for a while longer.

Will Hainsey play with Rielly this year? Will it indeed be Hainsey, could actually be a great shut down pair. I wouldn't mind seeing Hainsey also pair up with Gards tho, Hainsey has the whereabouts to know when he needs to drop back for Gardiner and his impulsive play.
