Let's just assume that Tags friend of a friend is on to something with Columbus. They make sense as a trade partner.
This isn't a blockbuster, but fills needs for both teams.
Clb
Robertson $.789M
2024 1st
2024 5th
Tor
Peeke $2.75M
Olivier $1.1M
Ceulemans ELC
Then
Arz
Liljegren $1.4M
Lagesson $.775M
2024 4th
Tor
Dumba (50%) $1.95M
Not sure if Leafs can make it work cap wise without moving Sammy or Brodie as well.

Peeke is a third pairing D. At best.

CKPS. So? Are you saying the Leafs couldn't use a 3rd pair RD with size that hits, Pk's and can box out in front of the net? Coulemens has top 4 potential and Olivier is an upgrade on Reeves.
What exactly is your point?

I’m not against trading for Dumba because I feel he’d make a great partner with Rielly.
My approach to acquiring Dumba would be without retention; this as you know reduces our cost of losing assets.
So no retention plus Voit and the 4th pick I would offer; might not be enough I know I’d start there.
The $s come from sending Samsonov and Kampf to Carolina for Kotkaniemi (? sp) . We know they need goalie so both teams trade their 4LCs. If Leafs need to add a B prospect I’m okay with that. Kotkaniemi is 23yo, 6.2 201, a 40+ point getter last year, on PK #2 with physicality. He’s also on a 7-year $4.82m contract. I’m good with since we save about #900k.
Waive Reaves and Giordano to save close to $2m.

Not including a first for a third pair D.

Ckps. The 1st is not for Peeke. lol
The 1st is to ensure they get Ceulemans. Robertson will not get Peeke and Olivier on his own. Ceulemans is at minimum worth a 2nd,
more likely a 1st as where he was drafted (25th overall) . The 1st and 5th make up the difference in value the Leafs would owe on the 1st part of the deal (Robertson - Peeke, Olivier) and be able to land Ceulemans.
I'd rather have a 20 year old 6'2" 195 lb already developing RD that is projecting as a possible top 4 over a late 1st round pick that I hope works out. He make take another year in the A to be ready, but with Rielly, McCabe, Peeke and Timmins signed with Benoit an RFA and Dumba already in the mix to re-sign, they can afford to let Ceulemans develop a little longer. This now gives the Leafs two solid D prospects in Ceulemans and Niemela, which they need more prospects to help them keep competing going forward.

I see very little value in Olivier, a part-time 4th liner.
Yes he can duke it out but we don’t have the luxury of a player like this taking cap space in a 23-man roster.
There are others who can be bulldogs who actually play well.
Ceuleman does have pedigree but is still unproven.
I also continue to see Peeke as a 6/ 7 on a poor team.
There are better choices, such as Dumba as you point out.

Where Ceuleman was drafted is irrelevant.

@RLF I would definitely pull the trigger on the Arizona deal.
Not on the Columbus deal though. I think Cuelemans will be a top4, buy he's probably not ready for another year minimum. Not sure if that helps us now.
As for Peeke, yes probably a 3rd pairing D, but I think his price point is too high to squeeze in for a 3rd pair. Leafs are going to be really tight against the cap next year and I really don't think they can afford to have a 3rd pairing D at $2.75M.
We probably will have
Benoit $1.25M
Timmins $1.1
And maybe target Brown $1.5/ $1.75 top.

Rsears.
Olivier played the full season last year until injured late in the year. Not a part time on a team that needs a 10 min a night guy that can skate and will take care of business and still play the game. 15 points in 66 games last year.
As for Peeke, yes Columbus is bad, but saying he is a 6/ 7 guy there doesn't mean much. Which Leaf D takes a spot on Columbus D-core? Rielly makes their d-core and after that, I am not sure if any Leaf defenceman can take a spot. Werenski, Provorov, Severson, Bean and Gudrandson. What other Leaf D is better than them? Some may be close to Bean or Gudrandson, but that's it. Add in the fact that Columbus has Jiricek and Boqvist as well and it's easy to see why Peeke has trouble getting into the lineup. Peeke easily makes Toronto's D-core.
Doesn't matter if Ceulemans is unproven, so will who ever they draft this year be as I already said. Again, I would rather have a player already developing and looking like a potential top 4 D than a late 1st round that is nothing more than a hope and prayer at the moment. You want the pick instead that's fine. We may get another Liljegren. We may get another Finn. I'd rather the more known asset.

Tags. I think it's perfect Coulemans may take another season. No rush if we have Peeke and Dumba. The trades are meant to compliment each other. Yes $2.75m is lots for a 3rd pair, but Peeke has shown he can play higher up. Is often paired with Werenski. Peeke is better than most say on here and may look good with McCabe. Of course, just my opinion.
Ckps. Do you even watch Coulemans play? If so, you would realize I said that he is likely worth a 1st LIKE his draft position. Ie, he hasn't lost any value because he is developing well.

We already have a 3D who has physicality, his name is Benoit and does all the things you purport and is far cheaper. We don’t need another.
I agree with Dumba and also agree that sending of assets further depleting our 40-man roster is short-sighted yet your trade requires extra because of retention. Other moves can allow Dumba to come in for the balance of the year without cap issues.
It’s irrelevant that Olivier is an upgrade over Reaves. Neither are needed.
I have no problem with being patient with Ceulemans.
What’s everyone’s take on the Kotkaniemi trade I proposed. It seemed to have gotten lost in the exchange.

I think Peeke and Benoit would make a very good 3rd pair. Why couldn't the Leafs use more size that is hard to play against other than Benoit and McCabe?
We see building a team differently. I've kind of had enough of watching no toughness and getting bounced in the playoffs.
As for Kotkaniemi trade. Post it and see what people think. Personally, it all comes down to how desperate Carolina actually is for a goalie.
