Just curious as to what the leafs would do in this years draft. Obviously #1 is Matthews and in my opinion even if they get #2 I think they will take Laine because either or is a win despite laine not being a center that the leafs need.
If the leafs get the 3rd overall pick do they take Puljujarvi? or do they take Dubois as the #3 or even trade down for a dman.
If the leafs get 3rd overall and the jets hypothetically stay at 6th overall.
WGP: 3rd overall: (Puljujarvi)
TOR: 6th Overall: (Chychrun/ Juolevi/ Sergachyov), Comrie
fair enough? who adds?

Top 3 you take no matter what. Laine may be a better goal scorer but puljijarvi is a better all around player. They're elite players and you don't pass them up unless it's a significant offer.

ok then let's say 4th overall. do you take dubois or pick a dman at #4 or trade down

I would trade down to take Chychrun or at 4 pick Nylander. Rookie was a top 8 in OHL scoring on a bad team.

Maybe they should trade down if they end up with the 4th pick? There are some insiders who believe that Jost, the center from B.C., is going to develop into star and will be the most complete player at his position (yes, more so than Matthews). If they can trade down, add an asset or two, and still draft him why not do it?

There are several reasons top 5 picks stay put. Teams picking early need young players; they also need to have cap space when they decide to become aggressive during free agency. Top 5 picks usually allow for 5 years of manageable salary - the Steven Stamkos situation is an example.
I believe if the Leafs, or any team, trades out of the top 5 it will be with a team with a top 10 pick who will have to add (probably last year's tip pick or something)
Here is an example I am hoping to see:
Arizona
Dylan Strome
2016 1st Round Pick
Leafs
2016 1st Overall pick
Let's build a local and Canadian core.

Hey Don cherry.
It's an international game. Just because a player isn't from Canada doesn't mean he can play. And if you trade the 1st overall you are sure as heck need more than Dylan Strom. Seriously

yah wouldn't want an American leading our team. like Patrick Kane. LOL. Build from a Canadian core. wake up buddy. Take the best player wherever he's from. if they had the 6th pick they'd probably use it on Nylander. LOL. They will not trade their first overall pick
