Leafs trade Johnsson, Ceci
NYR trade Kreider, DeAngelo

Leafs trade Kapanen, Petan, Gauthier
Dallas trades Tufte, Harley, Gurianov

Leafs sign Gardiner, 5x$5M

We can’t protect everyone. Right now it’s Kapanen, Johnsson, Hyman are the low fruit on the Leafs tree. We trade out two forwards and only bring in one who would need protecting (Kreider) if he re-signed here. Tufte, Harley, Gurianov wouldn’t need protecting.

Dallas is weak RW and could really use a player of Kapanen’s caliber to play 2RW, behind Radulov. They don’t trade a single roster player and get a top 6 winger and a depth center in return.

I didn’t do the exact math, but it looks like Leafs save enough here to re-sign Gardiner at $5M. Hahahahahahaha. Or we could just pursue another ringer at the deadline instead to fill in for injury or other perceived weakness.

Kreider/ Matthews/ Nylander
Hyman/ Tavares/ Marner
Tufte/ Kerfoot/ Mikheyev
Moore/ Spezza / Gurianov
*Aberg
(Timashov/ Brooks/ Bracco
(Engvall/ SDR/ Robertson)

Reilly/ DeAngelo
Muzzin/ Barrie
Dermott/ Schmaltz
*Holl, Marincin, Gravel, Harpur
(Sandin/ Liljegren)
(Harley/ Hollowell)
(Kokkanen/ Duszak)
(/ Rasanen)

Andersen
Hutchinson
(Woll)
(Scott)

Nyr say no thanks. Kreider is worth more than those 2 offers alone then you ask for deangelo also?

Not sure why Dallas would that re: salary cap?
And who is Harley? Or are you asking for a Harley Davidson motorbike so the other to two dudes in the trade can ride from Dallas to Toronto like the Dumb and Dumber fellas?

Mph. i know you are trying to be funny but with the 18th pick in the 2019 draft Dallas Stars pick from the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL Defenceman Thomas Harley.

He stands at 6 foot 3 and weighs in at 188 points. He got 58 points in 68 games. He skates like wind and has a descent shot. doesn't play actual defence as he concerns himself more with the offensive part of his game. He is from Syracuse so he will be on team USA at the world jr championships. Could become a solid offensive dman like say a jake gardiner or could end up on the cody cci side of things, either way a solid pickup iff the leafs made his trade.

I love both trades here. The rangers don't want to rebuild but are trying to retool on the fly. Kreider isn't signing an extension so rangers might use him to get younger roster player with more term. Johnsson is a great candidate for this. Ceci and DeAngelo are the same type of player but Dubas is more familiar with DeAngelo from his Soo days. I think the leafs might need to add here a bit but with what i don't know. Maybe a Timashev or Kokkanen dependng if they are looking for a forward or dman.

The dallas deal i think both teams would love. Dallas is weak rightwing right now and toronto is not. Getting prospects back for kapanen is good think ng. Getting the goat off he leafs is better thinking. I love these deals and think they were very well thought of.

I can see Toronto maybe trading one of kapanen or johnsson but not both I like the first deal more than the second one.

Kreider is pending UFA, so he’s not worth a whole lot. His contract balances Ceci’s contract, while Johnsson’s contract balances DeAngelo. It’s short term asset for short term asset, and long term asset for long term asset. If Rangers need more, we can give them a late pick or c-prospect I guess.

If we trade Kapanen or Hyman because of the extension draft, then we HAVE to bring in rookies or prospect players or picks. The whole point of trading him is because we can’t protect all our roster players. Looking for guys who are just about NHL ready makes most sense to me. In return, Dallas gets a roster upgrade.

Dallas can be 10% over in offseason. After season start, they dump salary in minors and ltir. But you mus.

So, someone needs to comment on the fact that hockey trades often do not reflect "who is the better player" anymore. So many trades now involve taking existing cap hits, future cap trouble, waiver eligibility, UFA status etc, that the "old way" of evaluating trades is now gone.
