I truly see a fit with Ristolainen or another RHanded shooting Defenceman from Buffalo, and these 3 players I see as trade bait to land one..

Take out Dermott make the deal kerfoot bracco and a future 2nd rounder for risto and I'm in you still need dermott on the team to take over Reilly spot when Reilly gets shipped to Dallas for klingberg.

Kerfoot and a second alone is way to much for Risto. They would take that offer and run.

For Risto I would pay;

Bracco 3rd.

I think Risto is a good player. He had a better year this season too than in the past. Is it a turning point in his career? Too early to make that call still. He's a bit outside the size range Dubas likes, but plays the game the way Dubas likes, so it wouldn't be unreasonable for Leafs to have interest.

Thing is though, Buffalo has been trying to trade Risto for a while now and still no takers. So their asking price is obviously too high. Leafs aren't going to give a divisional rival like Buffalo two or three key pieces to their roster like a 3C in Kerfoot and a top 4 LHD in Dermott, plus a high pick for only Risto back. That would help Buffalo significantly more than it helps the Leafs.

It might be what they want, and it might even be a fair asking price, but they will have to find a Western Conference team willing to pay that price, because nobody in their division is going to help them out that much.
