So Tavares trade probable salary retention, Leafs on the hook for 25 to 33 % of caphit for the rest of the term.
Nylander & Sandin trade likely very fair trade value, at best add a prospect or pick from the Leafs & it would be nothing overly significant.
Kane trade could be viewed as an overpay by the Leafs for a rental, as Chicago immediately flips Muzzin & Holl for prospects & or picks. Not an overpay as Kane is that good, trade value is fair.
Fantasy or building a Championship team, a trade or trades sometimes facilitate that & it is the GM's job. Three point per game players in their top 4 on defense, all 3 potential Norris trophy winners. Good offense comes from good defense, & the lineup assembled of Reilly, Brodie, Fox & Josi would be dominant league wide at both ends of the ice.
Every player has a price remember Gretzky was traded in the prime of his career, as the best player in the world so truly no one is untouchable or mere fantasy not even a McDavid or Matthews. The latter of whom Leafs fortunate to have, the time is now to win. Pull out all stops make fantasy a reality, end the half century drought. Leaf fans need their thirst quenched, with a drink from Lord Stanleys Cup.

@Wrexham, Nylander and Rielly for Fox+ isn't happening either. Not even close. He won the Norris recently and is in his early 20s.

With he salary attached to Marner, you won't get Josi for Marner. It's really only Leafs fans that think that.

Actually Leaf fans undervalue Marners contributions, because of the tall shadow of Matthews. What hockey fans see is Marner is dominant on the top line, & the sniper he plays with whether Tavares or Matthews succeeds that much more. Marner quarterbacks the powerplay as he is also dangerous on the PK, both of which successful stats for the Leafs leaguewide. Marner & a select few in the league is a cut above of gaining the offensive zone, & then equally dangerous to either score or make an absolutely insane pass setting up a goal. Engvall would almost double his goal totals playing with Marner, highly likely Engvall would have similar #'s to what Bunting produced last season playing with Marner. Yes Josi is a superstar with a longer track record, & obviously he also contributes in many facets of his teams success. In a trade Marner for Josi does make for interesting debate, would absolutely be close to equal trade value with a case made for either or as they are both that good. One is an ascending superstar, the other is 32 give that some thought. Could very well be Marner for Josi +?

if you look at the players who have recived massive boosts playing hwith marner:
18-19 - kadri
19-20 - tavares, hyman
2021 - Matthews, Bunting
he makes everyone look better. each player posted career high in goals playing with Marner, he is much harder to replace than matthews IMO. sure its nice to have a 60 goal scorer, but you can probably fill in 2 players for matthews 11m salary and get 40 from each of them. (im personally in a belief the leafs should trade matthews for mcdavid which would really change the team dynamic to 2 terrifying lines)

Kadri just had his best season without Marner. He was also a 30g scorer before Marner was even drafted.
Mathews was on pace for 50+ every year without Marner, he was just more injury prone.
JT, one time, is basically the only one you can argue.
