Matthews in a 8yr @ 15 million per season sign & trade to Arizona for two 1st rd draft picks in 2023 ( one of which Arizona acquired from Ottawa. ) & a 1st rd pick in 2024 along with a 2nd & 3rd rd pick in 2024 ( which can be the lower pick as Arizona has multiple picks in each round acquited from trades. ) Leafs eat half of remaining year on Matthews contract. A deep 2023 draft Arizona pick currently sits at 6th, in the event it is the 1st overall this years 1st rd pick Leafs acquired would become a 1st, 2nd & 3rd rd pick in 2025 & Leafs get the better pick than Arizona for the 2nd & 3rd rd picks acquired from Arizona in 2024.

If Arizona pick is high enough in 2023 draft Michkov, Leafs could negotiate with KHL club to bring home over for 2025 / 2026 season so he plays 2 more seasons in KHL.

Marner to NJ for Luke Hughes. Leafs eat half of remaining two years on Marner contract.

Nylander in a sign & trade 8 yrs @ 10 million per season to Detroit for a 1st & 2nd rd pick in 2023 & a 1st rd pick in 2024 contingent on if Detroit makes the playoffs. That becomes a 2nd rd pick in 2024,if Detroit does not make the playoffs this upcoming season.

Tavares is persuaded the rebuild is underway agrees to a trade, rather than ending up shipwrecked with Gilligan on Robidas island.

Tavares & Reilly to SJ for two 1st rd draft picks in 2023 ( one of which SJ acquited from NJ ) & a 2nd & 3rd pick in 2024. Leafs eat half of Tavares remaining contract.

Leafs would have six 1st rd draft picks in 2023, along with potentally three 1st rd picks in 2024. Along with multiple 2nd & 3rd round picks in 2023 & 2024.

Hughes, Liljegren & Niemela would be the building blocks on defense. Keep McCabe, Holl & Gio as a veteran presence for the younger players.

Go with Murray & Kallgren in goal or get Mzarek back, plan not to be good for 2 seasons. Draft high in 2024 & 2025, develop the players from the wealth of picks acquired. Bring over Michkov for 2025 / 2026 season & make the playoffs.

By 2025 / 2026 Leafs would have ample capspace to sign UFA's, or use draft capital & or prospects for trades.

Murray or Mzarek & Kallgren

Holmberg, Abruzzese, Yager as depth

Leafs goal would be to draft 1st or 2nd overall in 2024, & draft either Celebrini C or Eisseman LW / RW.

Holtz, Nemec, Casey, Gritsyuk & a 1st rd pick in 2024 to Toronto for Nylander & Tavares

Matthews to LA for Byfield, Durzy & Clarke.

Marner & Reilly to NYR for Lafreniere, Kakko & a 1st & 2nd rd pick in 2024

Instant rebuild

1.) 28 Apr 2023 12:13:41
Except none of these teams can afford any of the leaf players.

21 Apr 2023 15:37:50
Make the Oilers an offer they can't refuse

Murray, Brodie, Hirvonen, Holmberg & a 1st & 3rd rd pick in 2023, 2025, 2026 & 2027 to Edmonton for McDavid

Reilly, Jarncrock, Abruzzese, Minten & a 2nd & 4th rd pick in 2023, 2025, 2026 & 2027 to Edmonton for Draisaitl.

Leafs sign O'Reilly ( 2 yrs @ 1.5 million per season ), Acciari, Holl, Schenn, Giordano & Samsonov as UFA's

Leafs go nuclear on offense

Bunting Matthews Marner
Robertson McDavid Nylander
Tavares Draisaitl Lafferty
Knies O'Reilly Acciari

McCabe Liljegren
Giordano Holl
Schenn Timmins
Niemela

Samsonov Woll

1st PP : Matthews, Marner, Nylander, McDavid & Draisaitl

2nd PP : Liljegren, Tavares, Bunting, Robertson & O'Reilly

Leafs potentially with 7 or 8 players with 30 + goals, with 4 or 5 players having 40 + goals. With possibility of 3 players with 50 + goals.

kennedy0315

1.) 22 Apr 2023 18:17:19
I really think the Oilers would refuse these 2 one sided pro Leafs trades.

25 Mar 2023 23:42:19
At the conclusion of a 1st rd exit, Shanahan, Dubas & Keefe are let go. NHL at the request of the Leafs reinstates Bowman as CEO & GM of the Leafs & Queenville as Leafs coach who decides on his assistant coaches. Toews retires and becomes an assistant coach to Queenville.

Murray & a 1st rd pick in 2024 to any team that will take him.

Kerfoot, Holl & Aston-Reese would not be resigned.

Kane signs 3 yr deal @ 4 million
Domi signs 3 yr deal @ 3 million
O'Reilly signs 3 yr deal @ 2.5 million
Jordan Staal signs a 3 yr deal @ 2 million

Bunting Matthews Marner
Nylander Tavares Kane
Knies O'Reilly Domi
Lafferty Staal Jarncrock

Depth : Holmberg, McMann, Robertson, Steeves, Abruzzese

Reilly Brodie
McCabe Liljegren
Giordano Timmins
Niemela

Samsonov Woll

* Leafs win the Cup

There is great joy in Leafland

Team mates convince Kane it is ok take a cab ride to the afterparty

Bieber supplies 1967 pounds of celebratory Bieberbits for the celebration.

kennedy0315

1.) 26 Mar 2023 15:36:49
Kane with the Leafs, there's a shocker. lol
How much are Bunting and Knies getting?

2.) 26 Mar 2023 16:06:25
The Leafs certainly do NOT need to pay a 1st to trade Murray.

3.) 26 Mar 2023 20:52:20
@Tbuds Who would take Murray without a first being included?

4.) 28 Mar 2023 12:23:40
Kane O'Rielly and Stall. Did the leafs just become the a team in a seniors league?

I do like Queenville as the coach.

19 Mar 2023 14:23:36
Going all in with one more shot at a cup with core 4 & Reilly, if they cant get it done this year.

Murray bought out

Kerfoot, Simmonds, Aston-Reese leave in free agency

Sign Reilly, Samsonov & Acciari our own UFA's

Then sign Pavelski, Pacioretty & Jordan Staal

O'Reilly Matthews Marner
Jarncrock Tavares Nylander
Pacioretty Pavelski Lafferty
Knies Staal Acciari

Depth : Robertson, Steeves, Holmberg, McMann, Abruzzese

Reilly Brodie
McCabe Liljegren
Giordano Timmins

Samsonov Woll

Pacioretty ( of course all dependent on his health ) & Pavelski both highly motivated wanting to win a Cup & former Captains as well. Staal has the one cup with Penguins in 2009, also a former captain if he leaves the Hurricane.

Free agent signings proposed bring a good mix of size, toughness, skill & leadership.

Pavelski has proved durable & productive, & with a healthy Pacioretty that would be a dominant 3rd line. Speed of Lafferty gives his linemates more offensive opportunities, by creating turnovers on the forecheck.

The Staal 4th line designed to crash & bang, shut it down while adding a little offense on occassion.

* Leafs win 1st cup since 1967

kennedy0315

1.) 20 Mar 2023 00:48:16
Great idea!
Leafs will become the oldest team in the league with those signings!

2.) 20 Mar 2023 12:10:05
Ok. So even using Muzzin's LTIR after buying out Murray, the Leafs have about $13M in cap space. They are going to sign O'Reilly, Samsonov, Acciari, Pavelski, Pacioretty, Staal and add Knies and Woll with their contracts?

Can you break down the signings Kennedy?

3.) 20 Mar 2023 17:54:16
Typo. "$17M in cap space. "

4.) 21 Mar 2023 15:13:58
Pretty sure I read somewhere that pavelski won’t play in Canada. He’s one of the American players that has Canada on his no trade clause. Same as Ryan suter.

5.) 21 Mar 2023 22:31:16
laughable.

6.) 24 Mar 2023 12:39:03
Apparently Kennedy cannot break down his signings. lol.

If everyone can recall last years playoff loss to Tampa, Leafs took off a game mid series this year it is game 1 no show. Coaching & goaltending the Leafs are clearly out matched, though Samsonov may get it together however Woll is a legitimate option.
Even on home ice Keefe could not get the better of Cooper, and the challenge that created the 2 man disdvantage was the dagger. Leafs have been deficient producing offense from their backend, so reinserting Liljegren would be a good start. After that performance yes shuffle everything.

Kerfoot Matthews Jarncrock
Knies Tavares Marner
Nylander O'Reilly Lafferty
Aston-Reese Kampf Acciari

Reilly Brodie
McCabe Liljegren
Giordano Holl
Schenn

Samsonov Woll

* Short leash on Samsonov quickly go to Woll if need be.

* Matthews, Marner & Nylander can drive their own lines.

* On occassion double shift a Nylander or Marner with Matthews line

Nylander Matthews Marner

ie

Kerfoot Matthews Jarncrock
Nylander Matthews Marner
Knies Tavares Marner
Nylander O'Reilly Lafferty
Aston-Reese Kampf Acciari

So Matthews, Marner & Nylander get extra ice time, goal is more offense.

Instead of just shufflibg chairs, an actual roster reconstruction, focal point the teams most consistant player the last few seasons. Marner is moved to C.

Bunting Matthews Jarncrock
Tavares Marner Kerfoot
Nylander O'Reilly Lafferty
Knies Kampf Aston-Reese

* Marners vision & playmaking belongs at Centre, to the teams detriment he is playing RW.

Matthews, Nylander & Marner can all drive their own lines

Each line has at least 2 two way forwards, speed is balanced over the top 3 lines so slower players are sheltered like a Tavares or O'Reilly.

When playing against fast teams, the O'Reilly & Tavares combination will not work. Against a St. Louis ok, but against an Edmonton no such luck. That is self evident.

kennedy0315

1.) 02 Apr 2023 15:29:54
I don't see the benefit of Marner in the middle. He will have to play down low defensively which doesn't help exiting d-zone or entering the o-zone. Matthews is still the most lethal scorer on the team and he is with two grinder-shooters and no set up guy. It may work if Matthews is good being more of a set up guy, but overall may result in less total goals. 3rd line could be solid and dominate other 3rd lines and 4th I am not for playing Knies over Acciari.

2.) 02 Apr 2023 20:52:26
Marner is a perimeter defender. He isn't strong enough nor play the body well enough, to defend down low like centres are required to do.

Out of the star wingers Nylander is probably the one more suited to centre, he just doesn't have the drive to do it.

Playoff lineup

4 lines deffesively sound, with 3 of the 4 a serious offensive threat every shift. With at least 2 two way forwards on every line.

Leafs are missing the obvious
they have the personnel, what I am suggesting is not quite in the neighbourhood of a Red Kelly, but would be the most significant lineup change in seasons.

Painfully obvious !

Leafs win the Cup with tbe following lineup, if players are flexible & check their egos at the door.

There is no I in team.

Playoff line up 2023

Bunting Matthews Jarncrock
Kerfoot Marner Nylander
Tavares O'Reilly Lafferty
Aston-Reese Kampf Acciari

Depth : Holmberg, Simmonds, McMann, Steeves, Knies

* Marner line would be amongst the fastest in the league, would play against the McDavid line in the Cup final.

kennedy0315

1.) 30 Mar 2023 06:12:18
That Marner line might be the fastest, but they might also let in 5 goals a game. I wouldn't count on Marner as a Centre. It's not exactly something he's known for lol.

2.) 30 Mar 2023 12:11:24
I think you have assembled more "Leafs win the Cup" options than any team in history actually has of real Cups. lol.

Chychurin or Karlsson ?

Both with term on their contracts, both have had injury woes. Though Karlsson taking a skate over the back of his ankle, a major contributor to missed games.

What is the Leafs need ? Answer more offense from the backend = Karlsson though he is a higher risk higher reward scenario, with longer term at more $ than Chychurin so retention a must in either trade scenario.

Kudos to Dubas a very schrwed piece of work, acquiring O'Reilly & Acciari ( a somewhat underated player ). Next is the D core knowing one of your main rivals, may move heaven & earth to get Karlsson.

If trading for Chychurin

Sandin, Niemela, Holmberg & a 1st rd pick in 2024 to Arizona for Chychurin. * Obviously there is a hope Chychurin playing with elite players, would regain some of his offensive production seen in previous years.

Though if you believe Karlsson is healthy, you know what you are getting & he is productive on the PP or 5 on 5. Of course with retention needed over years left on his contract, pkg will be very sweet as he is on the cusp of winning a Norris if he stays healthy.

Sandin, Kerfoot, Niemela, Robertson, Hirvonen, Engvall & a 1st & 3rd rd pick in 2024 & 2025 to SJ for Karlsson. With SJ eating 40 % of Karlsson contract leaving a caphit to the Leafs of 6.9 million.

Along with acquiring Karlsson, accounting for possible injuries in playoff : a small pkg to acquire Schenn

Reilly Brodie
Giordano Karlsson
Schenn Liljegren
Timmins

* Reality is either Chychurin or Karlsson will see a boost in their offensive production, by playing on that much more of a highly skilled team. Same will hold true for O'Reilly if healthy as he offers leadership, grit, playmaking a smart two way positional player often in the right spots at the right time ( similar to a Mark Stone ). Though a Dubas doubter letting my impatience get the better of me, credit where it is due a handy piece of work. Needs 1 more D man Karlsson should be the target.

Of the two Chychurin or Karlsson who would you think would have a burning desire to finally host the Stanley Cup.

Noteworthy Karlsson last two playoffs an absolute beast #'s listed below . His #'s this regular season suggest more of the same in the post season, and his goal scoring has improved with 18 goals in 57 games this season. So Karlsson is on pace for 25+ goals & to win the Norris, yes the Leafs could use some of that as could the Oilers.

Never say never pkg. would have to be sweet which what I proposed is, if SJ is in a rebuild the right amount of draft picks & prospects could do the trick. 1st rd picks would not be lottery protected & assets acquired by SJ, like Engvall & Kerfoot could be immediately flipped for more prospects & or draft picks.

5 players

Sandin : NHL dman third pairing with upside to play in your top 4.

Niemela & Hirvonen reasonably regarded as good prospects.

Kerfoot & Engvall defensively would be sought after for the PK particularly, SJ would then gather likely two more prospects & two more pick. So a mid tier prospect ( if you trust your team Dev. those can sometimes pan out ) & 3rd rd pick for an Engvall or Kerfoot.

Two 1st rd picks
Two 3rd rd picks

A pretty fair pkg for Karlsson

So over two drafts SJ gets 4 first rd picks, 2 second rd picks & 4 third rd picks. They would certainly have the prospects, players & draft capital to move up in the draft either year via trades if they so choose.

If you trust your scouting staff particularly with those four 1st rd picks in 2 drafts, that would be a boost to your aspirations of a quick rebuild.

Brodie is actually a LD currently playing on the right side, in my opinion Liljegren is better than Sandin anyways. Giordano & Holl as your 5th & 6th works Gio so good positionally & with his stick, that will thwart many & most of the occassional brain farts from Holl.

Or if loading up the top 6, going with a stacked top 6 with each line playing 22-25 minutes. So 44-50 minutes of the game, third & 4th lines getting combined 10 to 16 minutes. Dependent on penalties as excluding Marner many of the Leafs on the PK are bottom 6 forwards. That would remain the same despite trades.

Nylander Matthews Marner
Tavares O'Reilly Meier
Bunting Jarncrock Sheary
Kampf Acciari Aston-Reese

* Still a very capable 3rd line, all 3 players of the same ilk with some offensive upside all strong 2 way players that backcheck & forcheck.
