At the conclusion of a 1st rd exit, Shanahan, Dubas & Keefe are let go. NHL at the request of the Leafs reinstates Bowman as CEO & GM of the Leafs & Queenville as Leafs coach who decides on his assistant coaches. Toews retires and becomes an assistant coach to Queenville.
Murray & a 1st rd pick in 2024 to any team that will take him.
Kerfoot, Holl & Aston-Reese would not be resigned.
Kane signs 3 yr deal @ 4 million

Free agent signings proposed bring a good mix of size, toughness, skill & leadership.
Pavelski has proved durable & productive, & with a healthy Pacioretty that would be a dominant 3rd line. Speed of Lafferty gives his linemates more offensive opportunities, by creating turnovers on the forecheck.
The Staal 4th line designed to crash & bang, shut it down while adding a little offense on occassion.

Matthews trade to a non playoff team even Arizona, seems highly unlikely. Another major obstacle is the arena Arizona plays in, by the standards of millionaire players, billionaire owners or elite corporations not much of a draw yet for Matthews or Bedard. Other than to get an 8 year deal a sign & trade seems highly unlikely. Matthews will bet on himself & bet on the cap going up likely a 5 year deal. Arizona knows if Matthews come knocking as a UFA in 2024, they will have the cap space & they do not have to give up assets. Like the Leafs when they acquired Tavares as a UFA.
What seems much more likely a contender goes all in
Matthews & Nylander to the NYR for Chytil, Lafreniere, Kakko & a 1st rd pick in 2023 & 2024. Leafs eat half of the caphit on both contracts.
To let either of Matthews or Nylander walk as UFA's, is 10 fold worse than when Sundin left as a UFA. Sundin was on his last legs, Matthews & Nylander have many great seasons ahead of them.
Leafs would have two 1st rd picks in 2023 with one from Washington ( currently the 12th overall pick in 2023 ) & one from the NYR. Then two 1st rd picks in 2024 their own & the Rangers.

After tonight in Van what I see is more a leadership/ Heart issue. I imo see the Bruins as ta unstoppable force. After I read a article about the dressing room and how they are so united and focused I believe that Boston is headed where they clearly belong to Lord Stanley. I am not a Bruins fan but they are seemingly unstoppable this year. They wouldn’t lose to Vancouver they wouldn’t give up not 1 but 2 shorties idk boys but this Leaf team jus doesn’t have what it takes from what I’ve watched. I’ve been a Leaf fan for 30yrs and this was the best chance they’ve had. The opportunity has been blown, and as much as I dislike him, Dubas has done a admirable job this yr with the additions made but it’s not enough. Sorry for the long rant guys but what I’m getting at is I’m on board with Kennedy for ONCE lol. Good prob man think that’s inevitably what will happen. This team will once again break our hearts. Don’t know about a first round exit but we’re not going far. ?.

@Henry I've mentioned that a few times.
Different players have spoken about a poor dressing room after leaving the team, but we all just thought it was disgruntled players.
Babs spoke about issues with effort and he was fired. Keefe is now having the same issues. Maybe it is just something with the core.

@LL Agreed, I’m not sure who it is or why it hasn’t been addressed but it will ultimately be the team’s undoing. Marner is so good, Nylander has actually really impressed me with his maturity and play this yr and fingers crossed Matthews is saving his best for April but something is suspicious with the core and it’ll become evident come summer, guess we’ll have to wait unfortunately but change is definitely on the horizon buddy. Enjoy the rest of what’s left of your Saturday night guys.

@LL. well other than maybe Kapanen i would take what the other 2 may have said with a grain of salt. i mean neither one have had a stellar career, Zaitsev never regained his form from that first year. as for Kapanen he was placed and claimed on waivers. if he could not play well enough on a team with Crosby. has me questioning the type of player he is. So many trades i see people wanting to bring him back and i am always like. "why". he was ok when he was hear but nothing special.

Chychurin or Karlsson ?
Both with term on their contracts, both have had injury woes. Though Karlsson taking a skate over the back of his ankle, a major contributor to missed games.
What is the Leafs need ? Answer more offense from the backend = Karlsson though he is a higher risk higher reward scenario, with longer term at more $ than Chychurin so retention a must in either trade scenario.
Kudos to Dubas a very schrwed piece of work, acquiring O'Reilly & Acciari ( a somewhat underated player ). Next is the D core knowing one of your main rivals, may move heaven & earth to get Karlsson.
If trading for Chychurin
Sandin, Niemela, Holmberg & a 1st rd pick in 2024 to Arizona for Chychurin. * Obviously there is a hope Chychurin playing with elite players, would regain some of his offensive production seen in previous years.
Though if you believe Karlsson is healthy, you know what you are getting & he is productive on the PP or 5 on 5. Of course with retention needed over years left on his contract, pkg will be very sweet as he is on the cusp of winning a Norris if he stays healthy.
Sandin, Kerfoot, Niemela, Robertson, Hirvonen, Engvall & a 1st & 3rd rd pick in 2024 & 2025 to SJ for Karlsson. With SJ eating 40 % of Karlsson contract leaving a caphit to the Leafs of 6.9 million.

* Reality is either Chychurin or Karlsson will see a boost in their offensive production, by playing on that much more of a highly skilled team. Same will hold true for O'Reilly if healthy as he offers leadership, grit, playmaking a smart two way positional player often in the right spots at the right time ( similar to a Mark Stone ). Though a Dubas doubter letting my impatience get the better of me, credit where it is due a handy piece of work. Needs 1 more D man Karlsson should be the target.
Of the two Chychurin or Karlsson who would you think would have a burning desire to finally host the Stanley Cup.
Noteworthy Karlsson last two playoffs an absolute beast #'s listed below . His #'s this regular season suggest more of the same in the post season, and his goal scoring has improved with 18 goals in 57 games this season. So Karlsson is on pace for 25+ goals & to win the Norris, yes the Leafs could use some of that as could the Oilers.

In a stunning development Leafs have been sold to an elderly lady, a widower of a billionaire.
His first name was Nick that is all the info we have at this time, along with news on a series of Leaf trades. New owner says she wants to honour her former husband.
Leafs announced that Nick Abruzzesse, Nicholas Aube-Kubel & Nicholas Robertson are untouchables as far as trades.

From many unreliable reliable anonymous sources are stating, after the recent events with Mitch Marner he is being assingned a 24 hour security detail on & off the ice. The two security members also had to be able to skate for 24 hour duty. Unfortunate Matthews Marner line had to ve broken up, Marner will be driven by security in a new rubbishbox no newer than 2010 lots of rust & a cracked windshield. A car that looks like it just went through a car jacking preferably with only only 1 working headlight, a sizeable ugly dent in the front bumper, a dangling side mirror preferably drivers side and over all a really nasty paint job ideally spray painted. You can kind of get the jist of where this is goung, thereafter it is a case of who wants sloppy seconds anyways. But if that does not deter a would be carjacker, tell him you were just driving to the junkyard he might believe you. Anyways do feel bad for Mitch, Toronto not nearly what it once was. 2 too many Trudeaus incompetent corrult unethical charlatans. Undeniable Maggie should have ........d Justin.
Anways it was a tough task to find 2 security team members that would also play on a lune with Mitch, they also had to be athletic & able to skate. They had to be paid a league minimum NHL salary to go agsinst tbe xap, aside from their security detail salary. As well these two individuals had to be ample security, both on and off the ice.

Never say never pkg. would have to be sweet which what I proposed is, if SJ is in a rebuild the right amount of draft picks & prospects could do the trick. 1st rd picks would not be lottery protected & assets acquired by SJ, like Engvall & Kerfoot could be immediately flipped for more prospects & or draft picks.

Niemela & Hirvonen reasonably regarded as good prospects.
Kerfoot & Engvall defensively would be sought after for the PK particularly, SJ would then gather likely two more prospects & two more pick. So a mid tier prospect ( if you trust your team Dev. those can sometimes pan out ) & 3rd rd pick for an Engvall or Kerfoot.

A pretty fair pkg for Karlsson
So over two drafts SJ gets 4 first rd picks, 2 second rd picks & 4 third rd picks. They would certainly have the prospects, players & draft capital to move up in the draft either year via trades if they so choose.
If you trust your scouting staff particularly with those four 1st rd picks in 2 drafts, that would be a boost to your aspirations of a quick rebuild.

Brodie is actually a LD currently playing on the right side, in my opinion Liljegren is better than Sandin anyways. Giordano & Holl as your 5th & 6th works Gio so good positionally & with his stick, that will thwart many & most of the occassional brain farts from Holl.

Or if loading up the top 6, going with a stacked top 6 with each line playing 22-25 minutes. So 44-50 minutes of the game, third & 4th lines getting combined 10 to 16 minutes. Dependent on penalties as excluding Marner many of the Leafs on the PK are bottom 6 forwards. That would remain the same despite trades.

My mistake should have been Engvall. 2.25 million, not Holl in the trade to Washinton. Possible they may be sellers.
