Josh Anderson’s $5.5million contract for 4 more years after this year would be particularly concerning.
Leafs need to resign Bunting, Samsonov and Kampf as well as extend Matthews and Nylander.
Anderson’s contract would make that very difficult.
Then there is Anderson’s lengthy injury history.
Good player but I don’t see a good fit in the bigger picture.

I like the idea of acquiring Barbashev but trading 23 year old Rasmus Sandin for Robert Bortuzxo who will be 34 years of age in another month does not seem like a good idea to me.

Brodie for Mayfield is interesting but I can not see the Islanders being overly excited about trading Mayfields $1.45 million dollar cap hit for Brodie’s $5 million dollar cap hit just to gain a 3rd round pick.

waterbuffalo-- Anderson 27 with 4 more years at a very reasonable 5.5M . A style of player not seen in Toronto since well since forever. The closest thing to a true power forward they would have since many moons ago. You speak of the need for re signing Bunting . NOPE. replaced by this guy. Nylander is gone. Hes gonna ask North of 10M and he will simply bankrupt this team. Leafs will trade him sooner rather than later. Kampf is in the same siutuation as no less than 8 other leafs at becoming UFA's so what makes resigning him any more or less important I'd say less as he is making 1.5M and othe about to Be UFA's are making less. Samsonov is a RFA so to qualify him the talks begin at 1.8M Now we all know to keep him it will be term and a pay raise. To make that happen you either find a sucker umm I mean a trade partner for Murray or buy him out and go with Woll and Samsonov. Either way the Golatending tandem will have to be a combined 5M max duo.
Any you slice it the leafs are royally screwed against the cap. May as well be screwed against it with some quality players in your line up.

As far as Anderson health for comparison sake which is unfair as Anderson is by far a much more physical player and a player who will drop the gloves but to compare lets do so with Matthews in games played since 2018-19 In only one season 19-20 did Anderson play signifigant less games than Matthews by quite a bit Anderson 26 to Matthews 70 that season. all other seasons damn near identical give or take a few. so the health concerns are not as relevant as you make it.

Besides if matthews is demanding max contract at 15M plus in his next extension trade his ass. He got close to max contract this time around and what has that much money to one player given the fans of Toronto in terms of a team win. NOTHING. no CUP. Id trade every personal record these players achieve to see the team hoist a cup.

Isles wont be sellers until March 3. if not buyers by then. Horvat deal made them buyers. They are in the WC race. seems dumb to make the horvat deal just to unload pieces that are vital to a playoff push.

Even then they wont sell to much as they wont be a rebuild mode. may just want to clear some cap for some off season UFA signings.

If the Leafs can get Anderson for that, go for it. He is a difference maker when healthy.
As far as Nylander is concerned I don't believe he is going anywhere. Yes, its going to cost $10mil to keep him but he is worth it. AS for the Cap, he is still on his old contract next year so its only 1 year of the big 4 and who knows, maybe they convince Tavares to move on for at least a year and then resign him.

Whyy are leafs fans the same when it comes to Nylander. Hes a gifted offensive players END. hes nothing else. Why is he getting so many points. watch his game. 1st to blow his d zone last to get back in it . No huslte unless the puck is near him and he wont get checked. Hardly ever stops and starts just fly bys. a 10M player these qualities do not make. that's what it cost the leafs to resign him. No thank you. Trade him in the summer when his value will never be higher. or lose him for nothing in the foloowing summer.

Nylander magic

Josh Anderson is a RW and thus not an effective replacement for Bunting!
BTW, Anderson is 28 years old not 27 and will be 29 years of age in May.
Power forwards who play the physical game do not age well.

You have failed to note that I said I do like Anderson but his lengthy injury history concerns me greatly.
I am against the idea of acquiring players who are chronically injured, especially power forwards or defensemen.
It will only happen again and again and again.
I don’t see Anderson’s $5.5 million dollar contract as reasonable for his production:
15 goals, 6 assists, 21 points, -12 in 53 games.

Once again, I like the player but simply do not see the fit with the Leafs.
I would far prefer Tanner Jeannot or even an Ivan Barbashev.
