@ the draft if toronto doesn't get matthews i'd rather a defenceman this year instead of wingers, so either trade down or just pick chychrun depending on where we are drafting

Thank you James. That's the first post in a while that has some common sense. I too feel that picking a defenceman like Chychrun is the best move if the leafs don't get Matthews. It's very early but seeing some of the young forwards gives a lot of hope for the offense. Good post.

Don't be surprised they fall to 4th that they don't pick Tkachuk or Nylander. As for picking a defender I agree; having said that Juolevi is probably the guy the Leafs want. Trading down to 6th/7th spot might get them an extra 2nd rounder and Hunter's favourite defender.

I wouldn't pass on the top end forward talent to pick Chychron. Chychron may be good but I don't find him that special.

That's an awful thin of prospects on the back end. If they don't have the first they better draft a d-man. I hope it's chychrun. Either by draft signing or trade they need help.

Lots of people in central scouting are in awe of Neilsen. Saying he's projectijg upwards rapidly a lot like Weber did in his draft year. Not saying Neilsen=Weber, but he's got a lot of good tools. I don't put too muh stock in the leafs interest in selecting Juolevi if they drop down to the 4th pick or such. Leaf scouts are at a lot of Sarnia games, and we all know the ties that the Leafs have with the london knights, but then wouldn't they prefer Tkachuk over Juolevi regardless if ones a winger or not? I think if we are talking about the 4th overall pick I believe they still go for the player with the best upside, which is Chychrun, who could be. Corner atome defender instead of Tkachuk who projects as a really good 2nd line power forward, juolevi who is projected as a top 2 PP specialist defender. Chychrun is my selection but no one can know until draft day.

That's nice to hear Nielsen is ripping up but remember defenseman aren't easy to develop. Building a stockpile would be wise. I'm not crazy about the idea of drafting juolevi either. I admire Mark Hunters skill but I don't think it's wise to keep drafting from the same team.
