If the Leafs drafting 2nd overall for 2016!

Trade

To Jets (1st) 2nd overall 2016 draft Laine/ Pulju.

To Leafs Trouba, (1st) 5th overall draft Nylander

Fair value?

We still don't have any centres. Maybe load up on D with Chychrun and then load up on fast wingers. I'm not sure the Jets give up Trouba to only move up a few spaces.

I don't mind this trade at all but I don't see Toronto picking Nylander if they get the fifth. To me chychrun would be the best option followed by Tkachuk or Dubois

I don't know why everyone is so sold on Trouba and the Leafs trading for him. I don't see why the Leafs would trade away from the top 3 if they get one of those picks! All 3 of the Matthews, Laine and Puujarvvi are elite prospects and drafting 1 is ideal for the rebuild. Matthews would be the Leafs top prospect, ahead of both Nylander and Marner and Laine and Puujarvvi would probably be an equal talent to both Nylander and Marner. The best part is all 3 have great size already!

I agree with Torontobuds, keep the pick if it's top 3 (unless someone blows your socks off with an offer of course).

I do like targeting Trouba though, he's a very good and more importantly very young NHL D-man that the Leafs could use to build up a strong top 4.

If Leafs had 2nd or 3rd OA pick to grab one of the big Fins, I'd say offer up JVR for Trouba. One of the Fins could replace JVR as the power forward and Leafs grab a good/young NHL D-man. Leafs could also use the additional 1st from Pitts (fingers crossed) to draft another D-man.

JVR could help replace the loss of Ladd for the Jets, and JVR helps the Jets "now" which they need.

I agree with Mattman13. I cannot see why they would move down from the top three (though #4 is a different conversation) as all three will be studs. Dangle JVR and colorados 4th rounder to the Jets for Trouba and look to move up from the Pens 1st to draft Sergachyov. If they offer up Pitts 1st and SJ's 2017 2nd they could probably move five spots up

JVR would be a much more valuable trade chip with the Jets; I totally agree. At some point though, to avoid the Oilers Way, we need good veteran players on the team. Can't just get rid of everyone and then have a losing atmosphere long term. Tough call.

Okay

Here's the facts as of today. No maybe , no it might happen.
Forward prospects in no random order.
And yes I realize they are prospects and may not make it.
William Nylander
Z. Hyman
N. Soshnitikov
C.Brown
K.Kapenen
J. Leivo
B.Leipsic
T.Lindberg
M.Marner (chl)
D.Timashov (chl)
Defense
C.Carrick
V. Look
R. Valiev
S.Percy
S.Harrington
A . Nielsen (chl)
T. Dermott (chl)
The leafs have a lot of real prospects up front. Defence that's a thin list and there's not a lot of promise there. The defense needs real help among other things. This is why so many of us are talking about trading to get defense. What's the point of adding more forwards when you don't have the time or energy or roster room to train players. You are better off addressing specific needs and filling them. Trading draft picks is one option.

If you trade jvr you get a good defenseman but you lose your best forward. Who the heck is going to be a leader up front? You can't expect the kids to be stars right away. Jvr is signed reasonably and he's 26. It's silly to trade him!

Agreed JVR needs to stay.
