Tor:jvr
Jets:trouba + a second in 2017

The leafs need a defenseman badly this year and their giving jvr but getting the defenseman they need plus a good chance at a b prospect.

This is a solid trade. Jets would then be able to find a LD in another trade. Islandjet will think that this trade is not close, but islandjet also thinks Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, and Letang for Trouba isn't enough either, so automatically discount whatever islandjet has to say accordingly.

Trouba is going to get cheaper as the season goes along. good trade but the second rounder might be too steep.

Ok, but you have tell us why the Leafs need this RH Dman at such an expensive cost.

Please enlighten me, how this overrated B- Dman who can barely score or pass solves what Leaf problem at this point in time.

How about the fact that the Leafs don't need another puck moving offensive defenseman, but they do need a more physical minute eater to play the right side with Rielly so he can move back to the left side. In this situation there is risk that Trouba doesn't develop to expectations, but the reward of having a top pairing guy with Rielly for years to come is worth he sacrifice of a player that will not be with the team after this contract expires.

How do you know JVR won't be with the Leafs when his contract expires? Don't make trade proposals based on your fantasies.

@Leafs2018

You missed the cost part! there is nothing overly wrong with Trouba, except his offense is 5/6 and his defenee is 3/4 while he wants 1/2 money. The money part is why he's unsigned at my last check.

There are other better Dmen who might be available pre-expansion draft and maybe for cheaper. eg. Fowler might be one. They may want to protect 4 Dmen, but that leaves 2 more forwards available, or they may want to make a trade, for say a winger.

Shut down Dmen like you are pointing out are somewhat rare, even though a lot of Dmen try to emulate them. Once in a while you also get one that scores.

I don't know about you all but doesn't Trouba remind u of Luke Schenn when he came into the NHL? So much hype about him but never lived up too his potential? It's still early but I think people such as islandjet over value this kid when he could flat out be a bust and looking for work like a Schenn was this summer.

I agree that Islandjet tends to over value WPG players, much like most fans (including Leaf fans) when it comes to their team. Having said that, Trouba is a 3-4 dman at best and expects way too much money. If he were asking a reasonable amount the Jets would've locked him up by now. There will be opportunities presenting themselves over the course of the season for the Leafs to do what they need to do. Patience!
