I DON’T think it’s that much of an overpay CKPS. DON’T think they would want to give away their whole future but a 1st a year from now and 2 years from now doesn’t have the same value and coming from Edm it would a very late 1st round. I think they would add Howard over that many 1sts but who knows.

Too many picks, not enough D1, D2 and D3 prospects like Matt Savoie, Ike Howard and Beau Aki.

It will be years before most of those draft picks make the Leafs roster if they make it at all.

I'm not sure EDM would be in a position to give up actual NHL-ready youth who have a good cap hit.

With McDavid only extending 2 years, he's telling the org to get him a cup or he walks, so they really only have one last kick at the can, and in their eyes, if they get McDavid a cup, they'll gladly go through a decade in the toilet, because to have McDavid through his prime and not win him a cup would be really tragic for the game as a whole.

In hindsight, perhaps they want Roy instead of McMann, as they are a bit thin at centre and I don't know if they think Henrique can get the job done at his age, so perhaps Henrique comes over and Roy heads the other way with cap retention.

Cap isn't a concern here because the Leafs aren't getting anyone in UFA who's worth all the extra money they have.
