If the Leafs are looking to add a big, top 9 forward who will fight and take on heavyweights, I would think Jordan Greenway is available. Buffalo needs cap space, Greenway's minutes have diminished the past 2 seasons and he is on an expiring contract making $4M.
May not cost the Leafs more than a 3rd round pick if Buffalo wants to move his whole contract and don't want to take a contract back.

That’s an expensive 4th line dude.

He was a minimum 3rd liner until last season. Hence the diminished minutes I mentioned and them wanting to clear his contract.

A Big dude that fights that is not that good of a fighter. At least get a guy that can win some. Espcially at that price point. Offer up a good trade for Olivier for a million less and you get a better point producer and a player that changes the course of a game when he fights because the other team shrinks 2 inches when he is on the ice.
A few years back when Green way was in the $2.5 range he might be a decent 4th liner but at $4 no way.

Interesting, when I had a prop with Matthews going to Columbus and Olivier coming back, you said Olivier is pretty much untouchable, you felt. Now when I offer an alternative, you say go after Olivier.
Of course, I would rather Olivier. You don't get him for a 3rd. Never said Greenway is a good fighter, I said he will take on heavyweights. At least he will. What Leaf does now?

Wow, tough crowd tonight RFL.
They don't know what they ate even typing.
Go prop.

He is pretty much untouchable but if you are going after an enforcer that is going to get paid $4M make sure it’s one of the best. If I recall Olivier was really the only player that was any immediate value to us in that trade and would make sense if Matthews was here to play with him. Sorry can’t remember your guys in the trade.
What I know is Greenway is not worth $4 million. Olivier on Columbus is a major part of that team and affordable that’s why it would be hard to get him. But if you are trading a Matthews or Nylander to do it you need to be replacing some immediate offence as well in that trade.

I know everyone hates Division trades and especially with Boston. They have a much more affordable guy who woukd fit the role and can play a good reliable game Mark Kastelic at $1.5.
They have Jeannot and Zadorov so he could be had. We need to tread lightly though as we always seem to get bit with Boston trades. Maybe we do a 3 way deal to avoid the jinx lol.

Suffering. The whole point of pointing out Greenway, was he's a guy that you can acquire for very little. Yes, he is paid too much, that is why Buffalo would move him for very little. Thought it was explained at the start.

@RLF I view Greenway as a Dakota Joshua look alike. I would rather see the Leafs target a two way player with speed.

A. J. Greer is a good but not great fighter but he brings a grit with good hard hitting and can score a bit too. I would rather see Florida sign him to $2 million and then trade him to us for a 3rd or a 4th similar to the way the Marner deal went down.
He would take 10% of our current available cap and bring more to the table than Greenway at 20% of that available cap. My opinion only, of course. Some might share and others might not.

We can bring up different guys and that's great for conversation. Who knows what Greer signs for. He had 17 goals last year. I would think he is hoping to get paid. I am not saying Greenway is ideal, just should be cheap to acquire if the Leafs are looking for such a player.
I am not even a big Greenway fan. Just pointing him out as a possibility.

I guess my look at it is yes he is cheap to acquire but expensive to have.

Suffering. That's fair and I don't disagree. There may be no alternatives though that come to Toronto. That includes any of the D UFA's.

As I said, just sign Greer.
Why help the Sabres sign Tuch!
Greer is better than Greenway and not as expensive, plus gives the Leafs a player with grit and is a willing pugilist.

Rsears. That's all great to say, but you can't just snap your fingers and he's signed. As I said to suffering, he just had a career year with 17 goals and brings all those other intangibles. Also a career year in TOI, averaging over 12 mins a night and was used on the 3rd line near the end of the season picking up 6 goals and 4 assists in his last 15 games.
How much less than $4M do you think he is looking for and what term? He's 29. This could be his last chance at a big payday. He might want something like 6x$4M. If Laughton is expecting $5M+, I would think after Greer's year, he is looking for over $3M per.

You’re kidding, right!
I understand one cannot snap their fingers and make a signing.
But to give up a player and help the Sabres resign Tuch makes no sense when a better player is available for less.
Greer does not snap his fingers and get the amount you suggest.

31 May 2026 20:21:52
No, I'm not kidding. You responded, "As I said, just sign Greer." How does that not sound like snap your fingers and it's done? What player did the Leafs give up in my original post or any afterward?
I would prefer Greer as well. Many do the just sign this guy or that guy instead of what was posted.
It rarely happens in reality, so not really a strong argument. For Greer to be signed, he obviously would have to want to come to Toronto. Why Greer would want sign with Toronto after the year they just had? Why wouldn't he want a big payday and ask for more than $3M?

RLF,
You cannot trade for Greenway without giving up something! You didn’t state who you trade so why name him if you don’t say who you’re giving up.
And then later you say you’re not a fan but just naming him, why not say who you trade. It would save time debating it.
And how do you know Greer won’t sign?
And it was you saying snapping fingers not me.
