Well, now let’s move on from Morgan; trade him for picks, no money coming back.
Leaves us 5.5 million available on the cap.


We will have to move Dakota Joshua for picks; adds 3.25.
8.75 available.
Key is max Domi LTIR 3.75.
Gives 12.5 on cap.
Sign Gauthier 5 years 8.5 million per.
Sign Logan Stanley Cup for 3.5 for 3 years.
Crap, a lot of work.

Well imagine a world where we could send Domi and a puck back for Dach. Heard they were interested in trading for a centre and I realistically can’t guess what or how many picks we’d have to add but it’s out there.

@Luke Fox, I love Gauthier. I think he is a good one for sure. But I’m still not moving Knies. We keep getting the same type of player. We have enough skill. Watch playoffs and see how well the perimeter players do.

Need Knies to get in there and muck it up. If Knies was on the other side of 30 and we were rebuilding, I’d be all for it. But he is 23, not even in his prime. But I’d trade Nylander for Gauthier.

With Leo Carlson just signing for $18 million a year, I doubt Cutter Gauthier is going to sign for $8, $10 million less.
It will likely take at least $10 - $12 million to get Gauthier’s signature on a long term contract.



Just curious; who are we trading Morgan Rielly and Dakota Joshua too?
If it was that easy I imagine it would be be dome by now.

So, Clarky, you didn't like when Nylander held out. If you trade him for Gauthier, you are trading for a guy that demanded to be traded before he even played in the NHL.

Suffering, you guys never read my post right. I said I’ve been wanting to trade Nylander since he held out. But that wasn’t the reason for the hold out. It’s because I don’t believe we can win with selfish mode players like him.

We had too much perimeter heartless skill on the team since then and he would have been the one I traded over Marner. It wasn’t just he held out for contract negotiations, it’s because I really don’t like that type of player on my favourite team.

It’s an enticing proposition to say the least, a lot of moving parts. Let’s just say it works out the way u say and u get the cap space u need and get the players u want in Gauthier and Stanley. The lineup would definitely be good, no doubt.

Options are way better with Gauthier, that’s for sure to move guys around.

Tavares can be your 3c and Paul or Cowan can move up to 2LW. I like it but a lot of things need to happen to make the money work and Ducks to agree to it.

@LukeFox... It’s an intriguing one. Good news for you, you would a lot more cap room... you forgot to add in Knies salary disappearing to allow for signing Gauthier if more money was needed.

Suffering, he did add Knies, that’s how he got the original $5m in cap. That's Knies' cap - the overage right now. But to make it work still need Joshua Rielly and in my eyes Lorentz, that way u sign both Gauthier and Stanley and still have some cap left over. Plus u got Domi’s cap that will be LTIR for sure.

If you are talking that $5.5, I think that is after he calculated we are already $2 over and by trading Reilly that would put us at $5.5 ahead.

So what I see is right now we are $2.7m over and we sent McEwen down that leaves us $2m over Then by trading Reilly it leaves us $5.5m under.

Then trading Joshua for picks it leaves us $8.75 Under. With Domi LTIR it leaves us $12.5 under. Then..... by subtracting Knies $7.75 from our cap it then leaves us $20.25 under the cap to do Luke's Gauthier and Stanley signings. I might be wrong but will leve it open to see how my calculations work.

Or save it and see how the season goes if we needed it for trading prospects for a bigger salary coming in. Always good to accumulate a bit for a rainy day.
