Tor: OEL, Joshua, V. Johansson, T. Hopkins, 2027 1st (col).
Club: Provorov, Max McCue.
With the better partner for Raddysh being McCabe, we might need a new partner for Tanev. Add in the roster situations out in Columbus, we might have a chance to land prov.
Very well defensively minded. Fair outlet pass, and 9g 22a for Columbus has to say something about what he would do on a better team.
Also felt like looking at a target that hasn't been repeated 300 times.

To give up that package to bring in Provorov at $8.5, I would rather hang on to OEL and Joshua and our 2 good prospects and the draft pick. We could keep Reilly at $7.5 and get the same production, and if Reilly was partnered with Raddysh, some old fashioned Reilly numbers.
This proposed trade is crazy to give up that package. In my opinion. Others may think you a genius.

I’m w Suffering on this one but for different reasons.
Committing $8.5m for the next 5x years especially if we don’t resign Matthews is a lot.
My thoughts for the Leafs is using cash for short term contracts (like we’ve done), while building our prospect pool.

Hey King. I'm not proposing we hand onto Reilly. Just that if we are bringing in a Dman with worse numbers and higher salary. It doesn't make any sense to give up that package which with OEL and Hopkins alone is taking to very good players from this organization.

Oh! I get that!
I just don’t think the Leafs wanna commit to Provorov for the next 5x years at $8.5m.

Yeah, I mean that contract is not bad in the future for D-men with his 30 points a year if he was solid in his own end. It is weird he gets pushed around like a little kid in front of the net yet he is not tiny. 6-1 and 225 but he is not physically strong.
Personally, I am looking forward to how Danford looks in camp. My buddy's kid skated with him a few days before the Leafs Development Camp. He is in another team's system and said that Danford is way stronger than last summer and skating is super strong as well.

When it comes to Danford, I’d like to see him play for the Marlies next season. Give him big minutes, big responsibilities and see how he handles it. Developing a D-man is hard, let’s get this one right.

Why is everyone thinking Provorov is supposed to be offensive? He's a lefty defensive dman that was behind Werenski on a weak Columbus team. He might want out, and has 5 years left, with the last 2 being M-ntc clauses. People forgetting if we lose Matthews, we still need to get to the cap floor.
He's 5 years younger than OEL, and has a style similar to Mattias Ekholm. His contract fits the timeline for right now. And we still get to move Rielly for a draft pick.

Whoa!!!!!!! Back up the wagon and the mules for a minute Clem. Even if we lost Matthews right this minute and got nothing for him. Considering we are $2.750,000 over the cap we would certainly be in no danger of hitting the cap floor. As my Dad used to say "Are you joking in the Trophy room boy?"

I get that too!
My point, I'm not sure the Leafs have a plan beyond the next 2x seasons and I’m thinking they wanna create options for the future. I just don’t see them committing $8.5m for next 5x years until they figure it out.

Perhaps part of the play King is to try to figure a way to trade with Boston or Philly (Yes it would take some very creative work on behalf of Chayka with what we have to work with) to get our original 1st round pick for 2028 back. Once we have that then next season we are in position to offer sheet next summer.

Keep in mind Tanev is a mouse fart to the head away from retirement.

You mean from 4 years of LTIR, not retirement. But if he does come back healthy, that's a good thing. If he goes down with injury or aches and pains, with us so tight on the cap, it would give us an opportunity to see which of Danford, Chadwick, Villeneuve can step up to grab an opportunity.

Mouse fart ???
I’m hoping he bounces back 100% healthy. If he does, his $4.5m X 4yrs is looking good. Remember, 10x years ago everyone thought Crosby was one mouse fart away (???).
Head injuries ? change person to person. I’m more worried about the core muscle surgery. That takes months to heal and lots can go wrong.

Provorov and Raddysh would work together like Ekholm and Bouchard. Provorov can getv40 points while McCabe continues his dominance with Tanev.

Hold on. In your initial post you had McCabe pairing with Tanev. Now you have switched it up.

@Hrenklin
I'm out at this cost.
Personally, I wanted Provorov a few years ago when he was on his lower AAV. He plays a lots of minutes, plays in all situations and moves the puck well, but his defensive game is suspect at best. I agree with Suffering about Provorov getting pushed around too easily in the defensive zone.
Maybe playing with Tanev would help ?
If Columbus would accept a lower package, I'd be fine with targeting him and playing him on the 2nd pairing with Tanev.

@Tags97
Provorov and Tanev’s contracts are pretty much both the same length ?
I still don’t see the Leafs committing to anyone for more than 2 or 3 years, until they figure out their long term game plans.

@King
I see what you're saying and Chayka definitely did make all 2 and 3 year signings in FA.
I just think if they are trading for a player they really want, it won't matter if the contract is longer than 3 years.
Provorov probably wouldn't be that player.
Targeting someone like Harley would be despite having 8 years term.
I am really hoping for a big splash before the end of summer. Let's go Chayka!

I couldn’t agree w you more ?
Harley is a waaaaaay better player!!!! And someone the Leafs can build around.
I just think the Leafs at this point don’t wanna invest $8.5m X 5 years on Provorov.
If a young, high ceiling player comes into play w consistent stats via trade or FA I hope the Leafs are all over it.
