Dubas needs to justify any trades, particularly those involving 2st rd draft picks. The justification is a fan base starving for a Cup win, & this array of talent Leafs haven't seen since Dougie & Andrechuk in that Eastern Conference final against th Kings. It could be decades again before the Leafs have this array of talent, particularly if Matthews leaves as a UFA. To squander this opportunity is asinine, with the assets the Leafs have to create the Stanley Cup fav ! that's what a real GM would do.

Sandin, Niemela & a 1st & 3rd rd pick in 2023 to Arizona for Chychurin. Caphit to the Leafs 2.3 million.

Holl, Kerfoot, Engvall, Robertson, Hirvonen & a 1st rd pick in 2024 & 2025 for Kane & Domi. With Chicago eating half of Kane & Domi contracts. Caphit to the Leafs 8.25 million.

A 3rd & 4th rd pick in 2024 to Columbus to eat half of remaining 5.25 million from Kane contract. Saving the Leafs 2.625 million against the cap.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Jarncrock Tavares Nylander
Knies Domi Kane
Aston-Reese Kampf Jarncrock

Brodie Reilly
Chychurin Liljegren
Giordano Timmins
Benn

Samsonov Murray

* If the Leafs are not all in this season, why would a Matthews, Marner, Nylander resign in Toronto ?. The level of talent available is almost as good as it gets. Started with the Islanders acquiring Bo Horvat.

Yes a healthy Foligno might have made the difference last year against Tampa, yes that trade turned out badly but that should not deter the teams path forward on trades, or negate using draft picks including 1st rd picks. Everyones had a bad date, get over it & move on.

Wealth of talent available

Meier
Karlsson
Tarasenko
O'Reilly
Krug
Buchnevich
Kane
Toews
Domi
Chychurin
Jenner

In fact a GM unable to work out a deal, is simply not doing his job properly. Once the 1st dominoe falls others will follow, so waiting is not all that bright. Players also need to get climatized to city, new teamates & coach thus why Lou gets his business done early. Playing cat & mouse in trade options, soon leaves you with no option or options that garner no impact.

Leafs are a solid third line ( 2 high quality players needed ) and top 4 defenseman away, from being a Championship calibre team or outright favourite.

* Dubas needs to chart a clear path make his acquisitions, doing so promptly & decisively then prepare for the playoffs.

Hopefully Dubas checks this site regularly and learns how to do his job better with guidance from you and others. LMAO.

Kane's current hip problems, along with that massive cap hit, would scare me away.

A team created to win is riduculous?, surly you jest. Wht make a singular trade that almost always had zero effect. Dubas need a third line & a top 5 D man. Actual hockey fans would concur, if healthy Kane, Domi & Knies would be fun to watch a little sandpaper, a little size & some talent to compete with Tampa & Boston. Benefit of a multi player trade, already an established comradery & trust between the players coming over. Multi player trades would seem likely a better fit & more comfortable than a solo trade, the perceived savior status & attatched expectations better shared amongst more than 1 new arrive far less daunting. Question is do the Leafs want a chace at a Cup, or do they want to win the Cup. There is a cost to assemmling a stanley cup roster. Leafs currently are not that, at best maybe 2nd round.

It could be decades before the Leafs have this much talent, a few well placed additions preferably a package from 1 team. It will cost prospects, players & picks, but you go for it because both the team & fans are worth it the chance to win right now is very legitimate. Something that resembles a Domi, Kane & Chychurin or a Bucknevich, Tarasenko & Krug would work. As would Debrincat, Giroux & Chychurin. Create a Stanley Cup fav while you have a Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Really the time is now. Many teams will be better next season Buff, Ott, Det, particularly the team with Bedard.

Why go for it?

Enough said.
