To St. Louis: Bertuzzi, Holberg and a 3rd

To Toronto: Buchnevich

I think St. Louis could probably get a good haul for him, he'd be a great addition, I know it dosen't adress our defense issue. Bertuzzi is strictly for cap purposes, probably not that enticing for them. Different target then the usual atleast and he can play all 3 forward positions.

Leafs_67

1.) 31 Jan 2024 01:50:42
I don’t think that is nearly enough to acquire Buchnevich.
I would not like to lose Holmberg as he will be Leafs 4th line center once we have traded Kampf.

2.) 31 Jan 2024 12:45:57
Don't see this one happening. It doesn't make much sense for Stl.

To Toronto: Hanifin (50% retained)

To Calgary: McCabe, Timmons 2024 1st

Or

To Toronto: Tanev(50% retained)

To Calgary: McCabe 2024 3rd

Maybe I'm way off on these. But if Calgary fears losing Hanafin for nothing... I like Tanev because he's a RHD and a shutdown, stay at home defenceman. He is 34 though, where as Hanifin is 26 and has alot of offensive upside. I have nothing against McCabe, it's an awesome contract for us, but you got to give to get. Flames can flip him at the deadline for a decent haul.

Leafs_67

1.) 11 Jan 2024 15:59:52
I’d rather have McCabe over these two plugs Hanifin doesn’t want to play in Canada so he’s a rental and Tanev although he is a solid player he’s injured far to often.

2.) 11 Jan 2024 17:09:00
I don't disagree with you. I just don't think our current D-core won't get us far in the playoffs. Especially with our goaltending situation.

3.) 11 Jan 2024 17:50:57
I’ll keep McCabe thanks. Happily take Tanev but not including McCabe in the deal.

4.) 11 Jan 2024 23:50:19
Unless Hanifin signs an extension I would say no.
Dubas made a habit of giving up 1st round picks for rentals.
Time to put that practice tto bed!
Tanev is a FA and will likely want more money and term than Leafs are prepared to pay a 34 year old defenseman.
McCabe on the other hand is under contract for only $2M next year.
Let’s keep McCabe
.
On the other hand, Keefe is not playing Robertson for some reason.
If that persists and Calgary is interested, then Robertson and a 3rd for Tanev gives the Leafs an upgrade to pair with Reilly (Reilly - Tanev) and Brodie can slide down to the 3rd pairing where he is not facing the opponent’s top players every night.

To Calgary: McCabe, Brodie,Samsonov

To Toronto: Zadorov, Tanev, Vladar

Cap hits are almost identical, within 500k. Lots of NMC' to be accepted/ waived. But would you guys make this trade? Who adds?
For reference, I don't dislike McCabe and realize he has a great contract. We have to give something up and I'd rather keep Niemela.

Leafs_67

1.) 16 Nov 2023 16:35:09
I like this trade not sure if Calgary will.

2.) 16 Nov 2023 16:48:09
How about klingberg, lily, holmberg, andruzeese and voit for zadorov and tanev 25% retained.

3.) 16 Nov 2023 19:52:56
I don't think I would do it from a Leafs perspective.

Vladar is barely an NHL backup. He's 26 and still struggles at the NHL level. Tanev and Zadorov are both UFA's where McCabe isn't. I know many say Brodie is declining, so is Tanev. Tanev is slowing down and even Calgary is playing him less minutes this season. I don't really see Zadorov as an upgrade on McCabe and Vladar is a downgrade from Samsonov. Tanev may still have the edge on Brodie, but not enough that I would want to make this deal.

4.) 17 Nov 2023 00:51:04
Brodie and Tanev are about equal in age, ability, expiring contracts.
Samsonov has shown he has the ability to be a good/ not great NHL goaltender while Vladar has not and is never likely to be more than a backup.
Zadorov is a #4,#5 defenseman while MCCabe is a #6,#7 defenseman.
Personally I would prefer to keep the goaltending as Woll is still a rookie and has yet to prove himself over a full NHL season.

5.) 17 Nov 2023 12:23:47
Vladar is thrown in to match cap. Calgary gets some goaltending help. Between him and Jones, we have an NHL backup. Tanev is a true stat at home (which we need) . He gits and blocks shots. Brodie seems to want to be an offensive defenceman this year. Zadorov would give us something we've almost never had, n enormous emposing defenceman. He's actually an underrated puck mover too. Not saying he's the answer or rven top pairing. But come playoffs, he'll be worth his weight in Gold. Calgary dosen't want these AHL players we're so willing to give away. Someone like McCabe can step in now and at worst be dealt later for s great return.

What about bringing back our old pal Optimus Reim...

To Detroit:Samsonov
To Toronto: Reimer

Would save us about 2M. Who adds to this trade?

Leafs_67

1.) 30 Oct 2023 17:48:30
I like the idea of getting cap savings and Samsonov is certainly a viable option.

Should we wait for a few more starts by Woll to be sure?

I like Reimer but would Jones also be suitable and achieve more space?

Does Detroit feel they need to send s Reimer out to make the trade and YES Detroit needs to add.

I’d like Rasmussen or Veleno but doubt they’re going anywhere.

2.) 30 Oct 2023 18:53:40
I agree Woll hasn't 100% taken the job. But he's really starting to look like a confident starting NHL goalie. I like Jones as our insurance policy (3 capable goalies) . Injuries can happen anytime and often. If they offered to send Reimer over plus. I'd be all over it.

26 Oct 2023 20:02:17
To Buffalo: Samsonov
To Toronto: Comrie

Simple trade to gain some cap space (1.75M). Who adds here? Buffalo gets a veteran goalie to backup/support Levi. Leafs save some cash and get a younger goalie with some upside. Woll is our #1 now.

Leafs_67

1.) 26 Oct 2023 21:58:03
I think Buff would add. I’d rather go after Clifton. They make almost the same.

Tor: Clifton

Buff : Sammy.

2.) 27 Oct 2023 01:24:01
The idea is to open cap space not acquire an overpaid defenseman!

3.) 27 Oct 2023 09:10:10
I had to look Clifton up. 7 games, -5 ?
Like WB said, isea is to save some cap space while having 3 goalies still.

4.) 27 Oct 2023 13:45:53
L67. I thought of this exact trade before posting mine below. Comrie has actually been pretty good for them. I would think they would want to keep him and make a tandem with Samsonov. Send Levi down.

5.) 27 Oct 2023 14:23:26
Staying with moving out Samsonov, which I’m okay with but for the right return and move.

What about to Chicago for 25yo Taylor Raddysh who scored 20g 17a in 70+ games. He’s 6’2” 188 I believe and is in final year of $758k.

Gives us needed space and a solid young player with offence.

6.) 27 Oct 2023 16:03:22
I think we really need a big bodied defenceman. Would a Samsonov for Lyubushkin trade make any sense? Who adds? More forwards are not what we really need, imo.

7.) 27 Oct 2023 19:23:17
Agree the need is Dmen but CBH have none at the right salary cap. Murphy is decent but $1.8m more than Samsonov’s salary.

As I’ve said I’m an advocate of improving the team and I believe this trade does that.

Defence is more than just Dmen.

So that was Ugly! What changes do you think Keefe should make for game 2? I'd like to see them run 7 defenceman and play the big guys uo front more. Not against starting Woll either.

Leafs_67

1.) 19 Apr 2023 12:23:44
I don't see big changes. The lines etc wasn't the issue. The he issue was nerves. Imo

They need to relax, but play with intensity. Sounds contradictive, but when you are relaxed you play more confident and loose therefore not afraid of making mistakes so intensity can now be upped. The game flows and you don't overreact to plays. I saw very little of that.

When nervous, you are already playing intense but too rigid and start fumbling the puck and overreacting to plays and end up chasing to get back into position.
I saw a lot of the latter last night.

Samsonov was just plain bad. The D core in general were poor. Especially Rielly and Gio. I thought the big boys were pretty solid, but the bottom 6 were all bad except Lafferty. The bottom 6 got badly outplayed.

That's what I saw a anyhow.

2.) 19 Apr 2023 14:47:07
Well I think this crap performance lyes directly on Keefe.
All his screwing around with the lines, this 11 and 7 bull and playing Hellboy Kerfoot instead of Kives.
Tampa out skates them because they were off to long and DOUGHNUT eating Coach didn't skate them hard enough and he doesn't enough know who should play with each other!

I coach is a bum and needs to pack up and leave.

Same old bull crap after the game by the players, WE HAVE TO TRY HARDER, THAT IS CRAP.

I AM GLAD THE FANS BOOED THEM AND TORONTO SHOULD REFUND THEIR MONEY FOR THEIR TICKETS!

GLAD I STAYED HOME AND WATCHED THAT COMIC SHOW.

3.) 19 Apr 2023 15:37:45
@PG. I agree with you on waaay too much line experiments and not trying to build line chemistry after the TdL. I wrote a few times about my frustration with that. Knies or not, they weren't winning that game with the way Samsonov pland they way many of them played though.

I think we all know change is coming this summer if they don't get out of this round. This is the weakest Tampa team in years when looking at that D core. Leafs should be able to exploit them and didn't/ couldn't.

13 Sep 2022 12:58:38
If the Leafs are to make no more major moves before the season starts, I'd like to see them atleast give this top 6 a try.

Bunting Mathews Nylander
Robertson Tavares Marner

The thought is that Mathews can score 50+ goals with just about anyone playing with him, this move should also elevate Nylander's game. Playing with Marner was a big reason Tavares came to Toronto, he had 47 goals in that first season playing beside him. A guy like him could benefit more from playing with Marner. Add another scorer, in Robertson, to that line. Should give you a pretty well balanced 2 scoring lines. I don't see a use for Robertson playing outside of the top 6, it's finally his time to step up to the show full time. To make all of this work, they would need to trade atleast Holl, to get under the cap. Not sure if trading him for a pick and sending Clifford and Simmonds contracts to be buried in the AHL, is enough to sign Sandin and hope he can play the right side. I still think he's a big part of this team, especially with the age on our left side. Otherwise, Kerfoot would have to be moved. They'd have enough to re sign Sandin in that case. My question is what do you think Kerfoot is worth? A 2nd?

Leafs_67

1.) 14 Sep 2022 12:52:26
I have said this a few times. If you want to tick Matthews off, put Nylander with him. Nylander has the talent, but his lack of drive and compete would just drive Matthews nuts imo. Matthews has grown into a guy that plays like he wants to win, like he wants to be great. Willy just likes to have the puck, otherwise he is disinterested. Willy reminds me so much of Kessel and we have seen how teammates got tired of Phil no matter where he has played.

19 Jul 2022 17:57:30
So we're 1.5M over the cap and still haven't signed Sandin. We basically need to trade Holl for a pick/s just to be cap complacent. As it stands, our RHD group is not very strong. Losing Lyubushkin really sucked. I'm not sure Brodie is our top RHD, but what other options do we have?

I would suggest a Holl and a 2nd for Weeger. Florida needs cap space (maybe worst then us). We would have to trade Kerfoot for a pick/s to make this work, still wouldn't be able to re sign Sandin though. I'm really hoping Dubas has a trade/s lined up and is waiting for free agents to get off the board and teams will then come calling. Because currently, I'm failing to see how we got better this year.

Leafs_67

1.) 19 Jul 2022 19:53:00
Weegar will fetch a good return for them. I'm not so sure Holl and a 2nd gets it done.

2.) 20 Jul 2022 11:22:23
If the Leafs now want Weegar, think Sandin (possibly +) or at least a 1st+ is my guess.

3.) 20 Jul 2022 22:39:11
@RLF can we still give up the equivalent of Dermott and Johnson? Lol.

4.) 21 Jul 2022 11:44:35
We could try, but now Fla says no and not Dubas.

5.) 22 Jul 2022 05:09:28
@RLF I know no one says it, but I wasn't sold on Weegar when you were. Good call.

6.) 22 Jul 2022 12:46:23
@LL. Thanks, I get the odd one right.
If the Leafs can get him, they should do what they can to move whomever to get him. If Leafs could move Kerfoot and Holl out without taking back much or any cap and then acquire Weegar for Sandin (and a plus I would think), I'd be thrilled. Especially if we could then get Kolesar or Trenin and fit it all under the cap. Goaltending would be the only major question left imo.

7.) 23 Jul 2022 04:33:36
@RLF if you were GM we could have the Toronto Maple Panthers now. Forgot about Bennet as well.

10 Jul 2022 16:17:16
Any chance the Leafs call Minnesota about Talbot? Apparently he isn't happy about the MAF signing and they are desperate for cap space. What would a trade for him look like? I personally can't get the Edmonton days Talbot out of my head, but it looks like a decent scenario for both teams, seeing as our goalie options are dwindling down by the day.

Leafs_67

1.) 11 Jul 2022 00:05:03
I don't mind Talbot in a tandem, but man is it concerning when Can Talbot is your last hope.

Edit to above trade. Cap going out of Toronto: 7.5 M

Is Durzi who we had in the minors, couldn't crack the NHL roster and requested a trade? Seems odd to me to trade for him now.

Järnkrok really frustrates me. He skates fast everywhere to accomplish nothing, in my opinion. Almost cost us the game. His penalty at the end of the game was from a bone head play he made. Instead of moving the puck up to someone, he just blindly wraps it around the boards, to no one.

Brad has been cleaning up Dubas' mess he left behind. He builds a great team for the regular season, but refuses to adress the needs for playoff type hockey. Brad gets it, bringing in big bodied defenceman, while not mortgaging the future. Just look at past winners, Vegas, Tampa. All have a huge D-Core, to move people from in front of the net and win the order battles. I look forward to what he does this off-season.

We let Kerfoot walk because he offers zero Snarl. This is what Domi and Bertuzzi bring to the table. They will show their worth come playoffs.
