Throwing this back up, as Samsonov has been solid since his recall from the Marlies, RHD is still the priority. My two targets are either Weegar or Parayko. Both are signed LT and not rentals.

To CAL: 2024 1st + F - F. Minten + D - T. Niemela + F - D. Kampf

To TOR: D - M. Weegar

Or

To STL: 2024 1st + D - T. Niemela + F - D. Kampf

To TOR: D - C. Parayko + 2025 3rd

Weegar is clearly better, thus the payment is higher.

I would love to have Weegar. Our missing piece. I just don’t think Cgy will trade him. Good offer but might even cost more because he has so much term left.

Wanted Weegar for years. I remember discussing him on here with Craigger on how much we liked him when people kept saying that it was Ekblad making him look good. Weegar proved a lot of people wrong.

Perfect fit. I agree, price will be high and this is a good offer. I'm just not sure if Calgary has any interest in moving Weegar or Andersson.

I guess in my opinion, trading for Hanifin, while good, is not the answer. However, if Calgary is trying to to a bit of a rebuild on the fly, getting a package like this is good.

T-buds. Maybe they are in a rebuild. Personally, I think they plan on getting assets and building around some of the guys they still have, like Weegar and Andersson. They are expected to have about $23M in cap space this summer with most of the current forward group signed through next season. I think they will look to re-sign Kylington and add from there.

Parayko is 31 years old and signed for 6 more years at $6M per season.
I would be beyond disappointed to see the Leafs get tied up in a commitment to him until he is age 37.
The two or possibly 3 more good years we might get out of him does not offset the 3 or 4 years of diminishing return we are guaranteed to see .

Weegar would be a great fit, but with Calgary having already traded Zadorov and in all likelihood about to trade Hanifin and Tanev, I would think the last thing they would be thinking of doing is trading another defenseman.
