Leafs got ripped off. Bad trade

TOR: Alex Stalock, Ben Smith, conditional 4th in 2018
SJS: James Reimer and Jeremy Morin

The leafs have the better goalie, better forward and only a mid pick for that?

I really don't understand that trade. Reimer for a career back up who is older than Reimer, Smith is a RW grinder who is also older and a 4th? And we gave up Morin, who is a decent prospect for the Marlies? I would have kept Reimer and risk losing him via FA instead. Useless trade

This deal has to be a continuation of the Polak deal but done in two parts. Everyone was correct in thinking that it was insane to give Polak two 2nds. Now it makes sense

It doesn't seem to be a great trade but there is some things to consider. First L.L picked sjs pocket last week. Maybe this is a thank you. Also it could be part of another trade. Who knows with Lou. He's very secretive and after Phaneuf nothing would be shocking. 2nd the market may have tightened. The Hawks some good players for a reasonable amount.

Ultimately I think there is only reason you trade your main goalie for a bag of pucks. You suck even more. J.R has been keeping the leafs close. There's no doubt now that the pick will be in the top 3. We will have to see where

It's a seller's market for goalies right now. Reimer is a BACKUP goalie; should have gotten more than a 4th for him but that's what the market is right now. Nelson from the Oilers got a 5th as a return.

i don't understand how nilsson is worth a 5th but reimer only a 4th? We got ripped so hard. I love reimer and the only way I can be happy with this is if he is resigned in the summer

Although this deal the Leafs did not get enough value, I think what we forget is he is being acquired to be a BACK UP goalie. The price on rental back ups is not much.

People are thinking it is a lot worse than it is. We traded Reimer because he asked for $6 million on his next contract, and it was unlikely we would sign him for that. We basically traded nothing (as Reimer most likely wouldn't sign with us, and Jeremy morin didn't have much of an impact) for something (stalock doesn't matter, but we got immediate marlies help in Ben Smith (he can also be 3rd or 4th line NHL) for their Calder cup run, and a fourth round pick).
