You can make all the trades you want but until the 1990’s style of Berube is changed this group of players will not succeed. Usually the coach gets fired because you can’t fire all the players. In this case, getting rid of Berube’s system will likely improve the team. In most games the Leafs are outshot and outchanced by a 2/ 1 ratio. The power play sucks. This is structural. This team has already given up on Berube.

The players style of play was tried for years and couldn't get out of the first round of the playoffs except once where they got throttled in 5. If the Leafs want to be a better regular season team, sure let them play that way. If they want to win in the playoffs, they either learn to play different, or at least 2 more of the 3 left (Matthews, Nylander, Rielly) need to go.

Not saying the offense at all costs works in the playoffs but the pendulam has swung too far the other way. They don’t forecheck on score dirty goals. Right now the system they are attempting and they do not have the speed to play the structure they are trying to play. Also, your odds of winning when Reilly is playing diminishes quickly. He has been on the ice for 38 goals against and the next closest I think is 25.
