Not sure why the hate on Nylander so much. He is a better goal scorer than Tkachuk at this time. I'll admit that Tkachuk brings a different element to the game.

Now, Tkachuk is an RFA after this year, if he signs LT and not a bridge, what will that cost the Sens, $7M - $9M?

Considering, Nylander is still signed for 3+ more years at $6.9M you'd have to be assured the deal would be in this range.

To add a 1st to Nylander, absolutely not from a Leafs point of view.

It's not hate just because you don't like all aspects of a players game or value him as highly as others who don't produce as high of point totals. Nobody has denied that Willy has talent. We have seen what positive influences like Simmonds can do for a team. No one could possibly say that Willy is a positive influence. My opinion, is that he is a negative influence and it is wearing on some of his teammates.

He carries the puck and he can produce points. He has to be given 60% offensive zone starts because he cannot be trusted defensively. He is not small by any means, but he plays a game that a small player with skill has to play. His minutes are down almost 2 mins per game this year over last year even though we have had injuries. His coach has benched him for lack of effort. Those two things should tell you something about Willy.

When I say he is a negative influence, it is because as much as one players effort can be infectious, so can ones lack of effort. You have players wanting to win, and then you have Willy. As talented as he is, there is no doubt in my mind that his "whatever" attitude is wearing on some of his teammates that want to go to the next level.

After last playoffs, Matthews alluded to the team needing to want it more. Willy rarely looks like he would do whatever is necessary to win. He has done nothing to elevate his game and get better this year. Guys like Hyman, Matthews, Marner, Rielly etc who work hard to get better, probably can't stand Willy's lack of effort because they know if he put the effort in, he could really help the team.

It may be nothing, but when Nylander scored his two goals the other night, Marner didn't even really celebrate. The first one ties the game late and the other stars don't jump on Willy like they do each other. When Willy scores the OT winner, Marner was still sitting down on the bench when guys starting coming out on the ice. Do you think if Matthews had scored it, Marner is still sitting on the bench when every one starts to come on the ice?

I think there is dissention on this team toward Willy. Most want to win badly. Willy does not carry himself in a way that embodies winning. Tkachuk has all those other intangibles. Willy is looking like the next Hoffman and the numbers are eerily similar.

Nylander was benched again last night. That’s twice this year.

Skill isn’t everything. Guts and leadership and ability to play a full game are more important.

Ottawa would never want a non-physical player like Nylander. They are an aggressive hard hitting team. Nylander has nothing they want in a payer. Nothing.
