What about a trade built around
To Toronto: Gibson

To Anaheim: Nylander and Murray

Who adds in this trade?
I realize Gibson isn't what he used to be, but to rid ourselves of Murray, might be worth the swap.

Rather get Hellybuck.

I would too, but his cost to acquire and contract demands are much steeper.

What about getting Ducks to sign Comtois to $2mx3 and trade him to Leafs for Murray?

Seems they are ready to give him up they may feel it works for them.

I’d take a flyer on Comtois, big body, can skate and defend.

RSEARS. I don't understand the point of this. He is a UFA. No?
If Leafs want him, than they can deal direct. If Ducks want Murray, I am sure if they offer a 7th round pick, Leafs would take it. There is no cap savings for the Ducks by signing a player just to trade him for another player.
What am I missing here? Why would the Ducks do it and why would Comtois sign with the Ducks just to get traded to a team he could sign with?

Rather keep Samsonov for $4 than Hellebuyck for $6 with an asking price of $9 on an extension or Gibson for $6.4 for four (4) more years.

Trading an elite wing like Nylander for a goaltender who has been league average in his metrics for the past 3 years seems like a terrible idea to me.

Hellybuck can want the moon but he ain’t gonna get it. He’ll be lucky to get what Sorokin got. He will probably settle for just over 7.

@RSears. Comtos is a UFA. made 2mil last year and Ducks did not qualify him. Leafs could just offer him a deal for 1 year but i read on Twitter one of the insiders say he has multiple teams interested in him. so as much as i would like him for our 3rd line he can probly get more than a 1 year deal with someone else as it seems that's all Tree is offering right now is 1 year deals.

I do know Comtois is a UFA, so pay him the money and you have him!
Roght?
But then you still have Murray.
Ducks might do the trade for Murray and Leafs won’t need to add a sweetener
That’s my point.

Rsears. Why would the Ducks do it
when they can get him and a sweetener as you said? It doesn't really make sense for the Ducks.

@RandySears. i will echo what RLF said. Ducks no longer have control over Comtois, so it's not like if the Leafs sign him they'd be doing them a favour. if they wanna take Murray off of our hands they would still want a sweetner. or you are doing a bigger trade with Nylander involved and in that case you lose currency on what Nylander's value is.

@ RLF
We don’t know that the Ducks won’t do it!

They do need a goaltender which will possibly require assets to obtain.

Mrazek was traded to Chicago with a 1st (25th) but Chicago had to give up a 2nd (38th) .

@Loxley
Just like NJD did with McLeod and Bastion the Ducks can sign and recover their not-wanted asset (or at least one they’ve given up on) .

Leafs get a reclamation project and get rid of Murray and his cap space.

Ducks get a goaltender.

It’s a trade that might work for both.
