Great news today Murray will be on LTIR

Now not necessary to trade Nylander just maybe Jarnkok...

Now -$2,068,950

They have 14 forwards we cut Gambrell $775,000

Now -$1,293,950

Cut Timmins $1,100,000 and get def at $775,000 (sign Cal Foote or take Lajoie, Lagesson)

Now -$968,950

Cut Lafferty minors $1,150,000 and take McMann at $762,500

Now -$581,450

...and the only trade to make is Jarkrok at $2,100,000 for picks or...nothing...

Now +$1,518,550

...and sign at the start of the season Patrick Kane at $1M

Result: $518,550

Leafs Lines:

Bertuzzi-Matthews-Kane
Robertson-Tavares-Marner
Knies-Domi-Nylander
McMann-Kampf-Reaves
Holmberg (13th forward)

Just trading Jarnkrok and sign Kane a 1 yr-contract give 3 great scoring lines !

So 10 million a year for a 3rd line winger with Matthews to sign and Marner the following. I love Nylander for the most part but I think the potential return for him will never be higher then now and the leafs won’t be able to afford these quality of players with upcoming contracts.

Kane may not play until November and they don’t need him, especially if Nylander stays. Kane won’t sign for anywhere near 1 million either. Leafs need D, not more scoring.

Amen Bob! All these trades for forwards, why? On paper we probably have the best offence without Nylander. We need two D in my opinion. Everyone has Knies and Robertson playing on the third line if Nylander stays. 3rd line should be your shut down line, don’t think you want to have 2 offensive minded rookies on it. One of these two needs to fill Nylanders spot while Willy gets traded for a top 4 D. Hanifin and Zadorov are two pieces the Leafs need to help Samsonov from getting shell shocked.

My ideal D:
Hanifin. Kling
Reilly McCabe
Zadorov Lily
Gio

Let’s see some trades for defensemen
Trade Timmons and Brodie.

If Kane can be signed at a reasonable salary for half a season, yes you look at it knowing by playoffs he is in full gear. Though I would play him with Tavares who is also a sniper, as proven his 1 season playing with Märner & junior career. Tavares of course fancies himself as a playmaker, & below the dots that is particularly true but he is first & foremost a very gifted sniper could still score 50 goals with a Marner or Kane.
Add a damn like a Hanafin or go nuclear with a Josi, must be a consideration. Karlsson is a bigger gamble, with more possible upside or downside. Granted Karlsson extremely talented but last season was an outlier, not a career norm by any stretch. Reminds me of Kadhri his outlier season with Colorado, unlike any career Kadhri statistical norm so those outlier seasons, absolutely must be taken with a table spoon of salt when hoping for a repeat performance.

Nylander Matthews Marner
Bertuzzi Tavares Kane
Robertson Domi Knies
Holmberg Kampf Reaves

* Give Robertson every opportunity to succeed same with Knies, who fared exceptionally well before his unfortunate injury. It was Knies consistent good play & size made him a bit of a target ( he also responded well to adversity after a blunder ), with the Leafs lineup needing some more of a Domi, Bertuzzi & Reaves in the mix. So in that context on a team lacking physicality, maybe Simmonds should have been in the mix as Cherry stated. Though I disagree related to Knies & would have taken Bunting or Jarncrock out of the mix, rather than not putting in Knies. Team knew it needed more physicality & size, O'Reilly, Acciari & Schenn was a good attempt to address that, but not quite enough to get past Florida.

Ultimately Kane going to NYR was similar to Foligno coming to Toronto, player was not fully healed & playing hurt result is limited or no contribution.

Any team dismissive of the roster boost a healthy Patrick Kane can offer, is not worth their salt the pedigree & talent is undeniable. Neither would one think his competitive fire & pride in his play has waned, a healthy Patrick Kane with something to prove to bounce back a player not that far removed from being top 10 in the league. A fourth Cup for Kane if that is his desire, run with it with all your might fast. Stay silent strike quickly, get a deal done.

I get it, you’re a Patrick Kane fan. We still don’t need him. It’s like having a team full of tough guys and all of a sudden deciding we need to add Reaves. We have enough soft forwards. Gritty D and depth will give them their opportunity if Matthews and Marner show up when it counts.
