Leafs sign Sorokin

Not sure if Islanders have Sorokins NHL rights still. If not, Leafs should consider him. He just had a stellar year in KHL. Actually, there are a few goalies in that league that are putting up some eye popping stats. Pretty remarkable. KHL must have a lot of low scoring games.

10 goalies in the KHL have gaa lest than 2.00 and about .935 sv%. Those are remarkable numbers no matter how I look at it. Russia is producing some unbelievable goalies right now. Maybe the best in the world. Even in NHL it seems like the best goalies are from Russia.

One other way to look at though is the people shooting at them are far less skilled.

The leafs were linked to bilyalov earlier this year his numbers are even better the problem is for the leafs how do they do this I don’t see them walking from Freddie unless he falls way off and Campbell hasn’t gave the leafs a reason to give up on him and these goalies are not coming to North America to play ahl hockey they are 24 and 25.

I guess you can look at it like less skilled players shooting at them. Except they seem to be able to do well in the NHL too.

24 and 25 is still pretty young for a goalie. We've had lots of 24/ 25 year old Russians come over. Just not necessarily goalie.

They also can't sign an ELC in some cases because of age. So o sign then short term someone else will get them in UFA. Long term is a huge risk.

Oh for sure I just don’t see how the leafs would do this unless they traded Campbell which I have personally liked.

I like Campbell as well. Hard to say whether or not he's a full time starter though. Especially with the defensive play.

Campbell was doing a decent job. I think we all like him so much though just because he's not Hutchinson. Seeing Hutchinson blow all those games for us, we all just embraced Campbell cause we were so happy we finally got a decent backup. But is Campbell starter material? Probably not. If he was, LA wouldn't have traded for him.

We need to plan for the day when Andersen isn't here. And that day may be approaching very soon.

Dubas seems to have an infatuation with forwards and scoring goals. He seems to forget that defense and keeping goals out of the net are just as important. His repeated procrastination on fixing our problems on RHD is already a concern. His desire to not confront the goaltending issues is even more concerning.
