I think Lou might be eyeing NJD 11th overall pick. NJ has a pretty poor farm system compared to the rest of the league. They could be interested in a trade down scenario.

To me, these prospects appear to be the top 10.

Matthews
Laine
Puljujarvi

Tkachuk
Dubois
Chychrun
Juolevi
Sergachev
Nylander
Brown

If one of those players fell to 11, would it be worth trading up to acquire a higher-end prospect? Quality over Quantity for a key player. (Anti-Dubas)

PIT 1st
TOR 2nd (31st)
(primary package of deal, maybe an extra body added)

for

NJD 1st (11th)

Not bad! I'd like to see both Nylander bros playing together but I doubt he'll drop to 11th OA though.

Lots of quality at 30 and 31 too

1. Draft: Patrik Laine (1st) - He's a beast. Best player in the draft.

2. Trade:

James van Reimsdyk
Nikita Soshnikov
Connor Brown
-
CLB - Jesse Puljujarvi (3rd)

3. Trade:

Jake Gardiner
-
Tyson Barrie (Sign long-term)

4. Sign:

Steven Stamkos
Milan Lucic
Jason Demers

Try and Find a #1 over the next year. Flip Bozak for a D or G at some point.

Lucic - Stamkos - Marner
Laine - Kadri - Puljujarvi
Michalek - Nylander - Komarov
Laich - Bozak - Leipsic

Barrie - Reilly
Demers - Hunwick
Zaitsev - Marincin/ Carrick

Bernier
Sparks

I know, it's a long shot, but a guy can dream right?

Laine > Matthews.

With all due respect Leafsbound. Matthews is much more valuable player simply because he's a centerman. he's going to be elite great on the faceoffs back checks well kills penalties does it all for Pete sake!!. so stop watching all the highlites on tsn from the world championships and have some perspective. as for the rest of your proposal it's really unrealistic.

2.) 19 May 2016 12:26:44
Matthews is the best player available in the draft! Even looking at their seasons in each of their men's pro leagues, Matthews put up far greater statistics! Matthews is a better skater and plays better defense. And he's also a Centre, not a winger!

3.) 19 May 2016 15:03:39
Anyone who has formed the opinion that Laine is better than Matthews isn't even basing this off of a small sample like the WC. Its based on the morning highlight package they've seen the last few weeks. Laine isn't in the same class as Matthews, C or W doesn't even matter, Matthews is clear cut #1.

4.) 19 May 2016 22:17:07
In no world does Gards get you Barrie. Laine and Matthews are both franchise players IMO, totally different players. Matthews is more complete with all the intangibles scouts look for. Laine isn't a great skater but has game breaking talent. Arguments can be made for both, but Leafs will take Matthews.

ARZ wants Matthews. It's business. He would be the face of their Franchise and sell a lot of tickets/ jerseys.

There are some issues:

1. Toronto does not want to trade him. (Franchise centre)
2. He's extremely skilled.
3. He ranks as high as you can on intangibles.

He's the complete package. Size, Skill, IQ, NHL ready, etc.

Is ARZ willing to accept the fact that they would have to overpay in talent to get him? I think so.

The only way I think Toronto does this deal is for the following package of players. You may think it's lopsided, but it would have to be to happen.

TOR:

Auston Matthews
PIT 1st
Connor Brown

ARZ:

Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Dylan Strome
ARZ 1st (7th)

I think that OEL and Strome is a pretty good offer, but it's just not enough to pry Matthews away.

28th + Brown isn't quite worth the 7th, but that little extra will push it over the top.

Draft a blue chip Dman. Chychrun, Juolevi, or Sergachev. Consider Tkachuk if he's there at 7.

Defense set. Centre solidified. Time to spend a little $$.

If I'm Toronto I keep him unless it's stupidly one sided in my favour. Drop brown and puts pick, and then I think about it. I am not saying Matthews is Mcdavid, but he's who I want back if I give up Matthews. And if not him, then OEL, Strome, 7th OA are the starting point, because you're right in that Matthews is a franchise centre with a boatload of intangibles, and those are expensive.

The only way I go for a trade with Arizona for the first overall pick is if it starts with domi, strome and their two first rdowns understand this year. That's the starting point. Add a little here and there on both sides and bam, first deal for a first overall pick since the cap came in.

3.) 05 May 2016 17:10:20
I think that Arizona would still have to add a bit, possibly another prospect for Toronto to truly consider but you're definitely on the right track if it were ever to happen.

4.) 05 May 2016 17:23:06
Toronto trades Matthews

Ariz. trades OEL, Strome, Domi, and 1st OA

THEN it's a done deal

5.) 05 May 2016 19:48:43
Toronto will not trade their 2016 1st draft pic. Stop!

6.) 06 May 2016 17:00:12
You think Arizona will have to pay to get the #1 pick but you have the Leafs throwing in Brown and another first rounder?!?!

7.) 06 May 2016 20:43:20
Why does everyone want to trade the pick so Badly 1st overall doesn't come often unless you're Edmonton.

Prediction:

1st - TOR - Auston Matthews
2nd - PHX - Patrik Laine
3rd - CLB - Jesse Puljujarvi
4th - EDM - Jakob Chychrun

Trade:

TOR - (1st) Matthews / Hyman / 27th

PHX - Strome / (2nd) Laine / 22nd

Trade:

TOR - Kadri / Soshnikov

CLB - Jesse Puljujarvi

Trade:

TOR - Leivo / 22nd / 31st

NJ - (11th) Juolevi

(heavily assuming he drops in the draft)

van Reimsdyk - Strome - Marner
Laine - Nylander - Puljujarvi
Komarov - Bozak - Lupul
Laich - Holland - Kapanen

Reilly - Gardiner
Polak (resign) - Hunwick
Zaitsev (sign) - Juolevi

Bernier
Free agent (1 year)

Bring in the Finns. Yes there are a lot of assumptions, but if the draft lottery plays out this way the Leafs could do this, not saying they will, but there was something special about the Finish World Junior Team.

That's a dangerous lineup.

1.) 27 Apr 2016 21:36:27
That's a lot of rookies for a lineup. Also, while the trades aren't ridiculous, they aren't likely in my opinion. But I like the change from the regular stuff on here!

That's what this whole site is, pretending/predicting what the leafs are thinking of doing/or not doing. None of us know. What was posted by TorontoBuds are realistic trade scenarios.

You (DBF) didn't even comment on the trade proposals. What his post was about. You focused on a sentence that is 100% true, they are "making & taking calls on Bozak." He is the most likely Leaf to be dealt.

Stop pretending like you have the authority to trash a members post. You clearly shouldn't, because what you're upset about, makes no sense.

You seem like the type to respond. I will not read anything you (DBF) write in response.

Haha, I like where your head is. I want the Yotes to blow us out of the water for Matthews.

Toronto wouldn't trade JVR for Hamonic. I don't know why so many people are trying to trade the guy.

However, I do believe he is a perfect fit for the Leafs. Hamonic has expressed a desire to leave, but they just advanced to the 2nd round, that might change his opinion of Long Island. Also, NYI does not want to let him go, nor do they have to.

The time to get Hamonic was earlier in the season.

I've been thinking about this package of players too if Toronto does win the 1st.

Strome would have to be in the deal.

ARI pick at 7th overall, would give us a shot at Juolevi, Nylander or Chychrun. I think the Leafs Brass would only do this deal if we got one of Juolevi or Chychrun. However, Nylander would be a great addition.

We'd be in a position of strength and could get a little more. ARI really wants Matthews. Plus it's the 1st overall pick, you're going to have to overpay to get it. ARI can afford to overpay.

to Arizona:

Auston Matthews
pick (2017) or decent winger prospect

to Toronto:

Dylan Strome
7th - Olli Juolevi
22nd

Leafs wouldn't include any other picks in this draft. There are really good players available at 22nd this year. That can be said at the 27th and 31st spots as well.
