So NJ wants to get a bit bigger while leafs need to make some changes.

Why NJ says yes, they might be forced to trade Nemec likely in a goal for Quinn Hughes. They get a larger body for LW depth.

Leafs get a decent skilled RW with some faceoff power.

McMann has put up similar numbers to Mercer the past two seasons and has size, more physical and better top end speed. Mercer may still develop, but he has regressed the past two seasons after a very good first two. He is also paid 3X as much as McMann. Although Mercer is thought of as a solid two way, younger player, NJ sheltered his minutes big time this past playoff.
McMann has one of the best value contract on the Leafs. 20 goals and a 136 hits for $1.35M. McMann is not the problem on the Leafs.

I’d do the trade minus the pick.
McMann disappointed Leaf fans in the playoff. Three assists in 13gp was bad but worse was his effort. He was not ready to compete IMO.

And he's likely to be down the depth chart if the Leafs sign mangiapane. So why not get a right handed centerish player.

Mercer sucks as a centre and that was McMann's 1st NHL playoffs. He got better and better as the games went on. They sign Mangiapanne and McMann is still on the 3rd line.

Can we all remember this isn’t McMann’s 10 year like the other guys. It was his first playoff run. He had a great year and makes only 1.35M. Hold onto this guy. He is way underpaid and we need some guys like that. Yes NJ is trying to get bigger but so are we. It’s cause they want to prep for a playoff team.

I thought we were talking about McMann and Mercer.
We can only hope Treliving doesn’t waste cap space on Mangiapane.
