Supposedly in the works.

To ANA: RW Kapanen + 2017 2nd round

To TOR: RD Montour

AkiBerg

1.) 22 Feb 2017 16:58:57
Why Kapanan and not JVR? Soshnikov sits?

2.) 22 Feb 2017 17:44:37
David

No to trading JVR KOMAROV they are still descent aged and our team can't be filled with too much young guns. Trade BOZAK then move NYLANDER at centre then give Leivo the chance to play.

3.) 22 Feb 2017 17:49:24
I'd love to see the Leafs land Montour, but honestly I think it will take a kings ransom to pry him loose.

I'm betting it would take Nylander, that's how high Ducks fans are on Montour.

I love watching Nylander, but knowing how bad the Leafs need to improve their defense I would propose something like this:

Nylander, 2nd

for

Montour, 1st

Leafs turn one of their extra 2nd rd picks into another 1st and use that to draft a high end D prospect.

Montour has all the tools to become a top 4 D very quickly and would flourish under Babcock!

4.) 22 Feb 2017 17:56:35
I agree we have too many young rw but kapanen has done even less than montour at the nhl level. With rhd being in such demand these days there's no way this is enough from the leafs. I doubt kapanen plus a first would be enough. Just my opinion.

5.) 22 Feb 2017 18:12:31
No to trading Nylander.

6.) 22 Feb 2017 21:53:30
Mattman13

Leafs already said they are not trading NYLANDER. Did you even see him play against Canes?

7.) 23 Feb 2017 17:19:44
Yep, saw him play. What I saw was Nylander raising his value.

Simple math really, you're not going to pluck away a high end D-prospect (RHD as well) unless you give up a kings ransom.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying trade away Nylander for just anything. It has to be what the Leafs mgmt think will be a top 4 D pairing and I feel Montour is just that.

I have a hard time seeing how the Leafs don't make at least 1 trade for a really good young D-man. This rebuild is moving faster than expected, but their Defensive prospect cupboard is very weak outside of Neilson and maybe Dermott. They should continue to draft and develop, but that will take a few years for new prospects. They can try free agency, but they will overpay (as every team does in free agency) and eventually that will become a problem (when all these young superstar rookies need new contracts) .

So, if they don't make at least 1 'hockey trade' how does the current Defense get better anytime soon?

My view of the future Leafs defense:

Reilly TBD
Gardiner Zaitsev
Neilson TBD
Carrick.

Tor-Edm

To Tor: 2017 2nd round

To Edm: Roman Polak

I think Polak's value will only decrease as the season goes on so now is the time to trade. Hopefully could fetch a 2nd but might only get us a 3rd

AkiBerg

1.) 10 Feb 2017 17:51:50
POLAK isn't worth a 2nd anymore.

2.) 11 Feb 2017 01:12:58
It's Chiarelli - shhh! We might get a 1st.

08 Feb 2017 05:02:08
Trade Tor-Min:

To Min: LW Leipsic + 2017 2nd round (Ott) + 2017 2nd Round

To Tor: RD Dumba

AkiBerg

1.) 08 Feb 2017 05:04:05
You want gold u offer garbage.

2.) 08 Feb 2017 13:14:27
Leipsic is not garbage. He's smaller therefore litter.

Seriously; you will have to give up more than Leipsice to get Dumba. The 2nd's are meaningless to a cup challenger.

Just want to see what everyone would think about shattenkirk to Leafs.

What would we have to give up and what kind of extension would he be seeking?

Obviously he would ideally seek something along the lines of 7x7 but could we get him on higher hit shorter term contract?

Is it worth it overall?

AkiBerg

1.) 24 Feb 2017 03:53:23
I can't either disagree or agree to you comment because I like what Shatty would bring to the power play. A significant top 4 D isn't easy to come by and is every team's wet dream.
I'm just not sold on the price and term if he's not going to be the game on the line defensive pairing. I've watched as much as I can, and like to read, and I can't see him as a top two IMO.
So, I'm leaning towards not Shatty.
I like Dumba.

2.) 24 Feb 2017 20:03:47
Maple Leafs need a shut-down "D" that can stay at home disable plays and create from behind the Blue - Line. Shattenkirk is not a shut - down type defensive man.

3.) 24 Feb 2017 22:06:13
You need a shut down D on the left side for the pair. Then Shatty makes sense. Same problem with Barrie.

But a long term commitment is required. Or the Leafs should go elsewhere.

Demarvelous,

I agree, as a leaf fan we are just concerned with what Lou deems to be an appropriate trade that fits with the plan that leafs brass has set out.

That being said, I am not a huge fan of Pierre but let's get real he has a better feel for the nhl market and player values than anyone on this site. i'm not saying we should make the trade but clearly the price for young, high potential (albeit unproven) rhd is high. can't say i'm all that shocked with this evaluation.

What would you put value of Montour or Theodore at?

Does anybody else on this site like Nylander and want to see what this 20 year old can do for the leafs, or is it just me?

IMO, I don't think the current system is archaich or inefficient. Video review seems to be the status quo in all big 4 sports and has only improved over the years with more angles and improved technology (especially in hockey) . So in that sense the NHL isn't behind other leagues. I could be wrong but I think soccer/ MLS is just only starting to adopt video review.

The NHL war room in TO also has access to more angles that are not shown to viewers. So on TV when goals seem to be very unclear to viewers, I think that behind the seens the NHL disects all the angles and has a much better picture to make the appropriate call.

Im not sure if the NHL has looked into the tech that you are talking about, but I feel that it would get a lot of opposition especially from long time/ old school hockey fans. The sensors/ gps or whatever would definitely help with plays where the puck is under the goalie and is not visible and believed to be in the net, but the tech would have to be absolutely flawless or else play would go to video review anyway.

Overall, I can see where you are coming from though and I think hockey teams/ fans are often frustrated with unclear or ambiguous calls. This might just be an imperfect quality that comes with the game.
