I don't expect big moves, which is what I have been saying all along. I would like some mid/minor moves that start to change the tone on this team.

If we could do my other two moves
Liljegren and Robertson for McBain
Steeves and a 3rd for Peeke
and then
2024 1st for Trenin and 2024 2nd(TB). Obviously have to have permission to talk to his agent on extension first,

We could start to see a change in style and set up for next year better and see where this year takes goes.

Signed for next season assuming Trenin has deal in place

F-Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Knies, McBain, Trenin(4X$2.7M), Holmberg, Kampf, Jarnkrok and Reaves
D-Rielly, McCabe, Peeke, Timmins
G-Woll

RFA's. Benoit, Gregor, Lajoie

Re-sign
McMann 2X$.950M
Benoit 2X$1.25M
Lajoie 1X$.800M
Jones 1X$1.5M

With the projected cap at $87.5M. That should leave the Leafs around $12.8M to fill in holes. Top 4D obviously still needed. With McBain, Trenin and McMann in the lineup, Leafs could buyout Reaves and save another $950K.

These are the types of target needed and Tre type players. Buy, I would just bury Reaves in the AHL and eat $200K for 2 years, instead of buying him out (which costs $450K × 4 years].

Don’t believe you get any cap relief for a multi year contract signed over 1 year just the money relief at 2/ 3
So yes just bury Reaves in the minors.

Forgot to add when player is over 35.

I like the targets and what we give up. Much tougher team with more balance.

Make it happen!

So on capfriendly buyout is possible 4 years at 450k first two years the cap savings are 900k then drop down to 450k I think it’s worth doing.

@rfl do you think it’s worth punting on a few guys like Bertuzzi to get draft capital instead of letting them walk for nothing if they are gonna retool anyways…. I for one think the reported meeting with management has more to do with what they are gonna do at the deadline rather then firing keefe.

Goat. That's a tough one. If they are able to make the moves like I suggested, they have a more playoff style team. I'm not sure missing the playoffs on purpose by selling off NHL assets is the best thing. I think it is best to give them a shot to make the playoffs. I said a while ago I think they are in a year to two re-tool before they will hopefully have the right players in place to look at real TDL adds.
Leafs fans (including myself) are tired of hearing patience. But there is a New GM, new roster plan likely with hardly any assets to acquire any new players to invoke the plan. Just my opinion that we are in for a year or two re-tool before we see what Treliving really ahs in mind.
I could totally be wrong and the go for it this year.

Not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but doesn't the buryable amount go up as the cap rises?

If I remember correctly, wouldn't Reaves be 100% soon?

Since this became a Rwaves-fest though (lol), I like the trade. Good for both teams.

@LL I'm sure the buriable amount will go up as the cap rises, so that pretty much makes Reaves contract disappear.
IMO best that the Leafs don't buy him out. Just waive Reaves and let the contract come off the books in 2 more years time.

Bertuzzi cost them nothing but salary. One year knowing they could let him walk if he didn’t work out. Let him go at season’s end and have the 5.5M back.

Hate to see Liljegren gone but for a long term fix at 3rd line center, (McBain) would be worth it.
Liljegren’s vacated spot would need to be filled and Peeke’s physicality would help in the playoffs along with Benoit.
Actually a Benoit - Peeke combo would be a fairly formidable 3rd pairing.
I doubt either Bertuzzi of Domi will be back leaving Leafs free to resign Trenin.
A 3rd line of:
Trenin - McBain - Jarnkrok would be a force and encourage opponents to keep their heads up come the playoffs.

Liljegren, Robertson, Steeves, a 2024 - 1st and a 2024 - 3rd would be a small price to pay for an upgrade of Trenin, McBain, Peeke and a 2nd round pick.

@RLF. That's what I wanted to see . if we are gonna be stuck with the 3 pretty boys long term let's work on building the rest of the team as hard working playoff style players.

Only one I see having a hard time acquiring is McBain. not sure why they do it but maybe the way to get him is in a deal for him and Dumba at 50% retained. saw Dumba's name back out in dirt sheets.

@Loxley. Maybe it would be a combo of McBain and Dumba and then the Leafs extend Dumba.
