We save a lot of cap space here (10 million) to sign some free agents and obtain a franchise defenseman that can log 30 minutes if needed. If possible maybe try signing taylor hall instead of the 2 guys mentioned and sign anyone for league min for the 4th line.

If we get knocked out and get the 1st overall pick (draft laf ) I’d do Marner for Jones.

Marner gets you a guy like Makar or Heiskenan or Dahlin or Hughes. H
You don't want a Jones. Obviously Jones is a great player. A little overrated. But still a top 25 defenseman in the league. Recent injury worries are a bit concerning. Fact is though, he will be 26 next season and only have 2 years left on his contract. So a rental+1. And at 28 years old UFA with a reputation like his, he will be demanding exorbitant money. We can't afford to re-sign both him and Rielly.

I Seth Jones had another 4-5 years on his deal I would trade Marner for him straight up. As is it would be werenski I want.

Werenski is the perfect example of the type player you should be going after if you are trading Marner. They were drafted same year and both are in the top 10 for their position. Or somewhere close to it.

I guess the only problem with Werenski is he is LHD. But damn. He is one helluva defenseman.
