Leafs trade 7th
Lightning trade Johnson*
*Lightning retain 50%

Lightning tried to waive Johnson, but nobody wanted him at $5M. Is he worth $2.5M?

The other option is to buy him out, but if they did that, years 1 and 3 would actually be more than $2.5M, and the savings on year 4 is less than $1M. They would also have to keep paying him $1.5M for another four years. Only year 3 would they get much more cap relief than by trading and retaining.

Agree0 Disagree1

Interesting, but at $2.5 wouldn't he have pretty much full value?

At $2.5M he is full value. At $5M he is not.

If we bring him in, we can kiss Dermott and Mikheyev goodbye too. I was going to write that in my original prop but accidentally hit send first.

Looks like Leafs are done making moves for now. Maybe a tweak here or there, but unless they trade Andersen or dump some serious cap, we are pretty much handicapped.

Yea, that's what I mean. I think if they are willing to retain 50% they would get a pretty good return (way more than a 7th imo) as his contract has no bonuses.

Johnson’s buyout sucks
2.73,1.48,2.73,1.73,1.48,.48,1.48,1.48

Ouch

50% definitely better option
Heck 33.3% might even work
Is he worth 3.35 per

Either way it’s something to consider for Dubas.

Good point. There might be more competition. Hard to even say what a $2.5M player would bring right now though RLF. Johnsson brought in a depth prospect. Joey Anderson was drafted in the third. He is now 22 and starting to get to the make it or break it point. Given the choice, I would have rather seen the third come back instead, but I have to imagine that option wasn’t available to Dubas. If you were to trade a pick for Joey Anderson, what would you give?

I'd give a 3rd for Joey Anderson still. He projects as an NHLer. Possibly as a 3rd liner. Young, plays with energy, can score and has shown improvement every year. I'd have no problem giving a 3rd for him.
