The insistence that Rielly is going to return a top 10 pick when there is no extension in place doesn't seem realistic, never-mind adding Kempe to the deal. Then giving up the 8thOA pick for Bertuzzi. Wow. And Dubas is fired the next day.

IMO Rielly is a top 20 Dman in the league and top pairing guy. His value is a 1st + Prospect + Roster Player. If you look back at other players, this is the going rate.

Now, I do understand that there is great value in the 8th overall, no doubt. That was why I added a 3rd and the swap of wingers, where Kempe is better. So say you value Kempe as a 2nd round pick, the value is like the 8th overall plus a roster player. But maybe take out both Kempe and Mikheyev out of the deal, and Rielly straight up for the 8th pick and maybe the Leafs 3rd back.

I guess i just don't put as much value in the pick as other may.

@T-buds. Let me put it another way. What 27 year old D-men, with no NHL trophy's of any kind can you think off that were traded for a guaranteed top 10 pick + roster player + a prospect with only one year left on their contract?
