Extending Reilly over Campbell feels like such a mistake.

Have to agree.
Reilly was their best trade chip.
Leafs should have resigned Campbell instead.
Reilly, Kerfoot and a pick/ prospect to NJ for Severson and Zacha while resigning Campbell would have done it.

Sorry but you forgot as of Oct 29th 2021 the date he resigned he negotiated a full NMC from that date on his remaining contract which will have no window until year 7 of new deal. This is when he will waive the trade part of the no movement clause except for 10 teams. This will allow leafs to trade him if they wish but not to just any team as he can put 10 teams on the list to not go to. During final 2 years this can happen but he can’t be waived, sent to minors and has to be protected still if there is an expansion those last 2 years.

So regardless if you want him gone or not he is here for this year and 6 more minimum unless he decides he wants out.
