Since Nylander has no trade protection, he can be sent anywhere, which is a major plus for the Leafs.

Buffalo has loads of cap space ($43M projected) and high end prospects, as well as 3 1sts in this draft. Nylander adds top 6 scoring and helps them reach the cap floor.

Leafs pick up an energy prospect in Peterka with the ability to produce and an 11-16 pick in this draft. Peterka could be a great fit on the LW with either Tavares or Matthews and Marner. Peterka's AAV is only $.925M if he makes the team giving the Leafs at least an extra $6M in cap space to help re-sign players. They then do my trade of Mrazek and Holl to Chi for Connolly and buyout Connolly. Cap issues would be fixed and they would have lots of space to sign those they want to keep and find a backup.

I think you're selling Nylander a bit short here. 16thOA isn't a great pick and Peterka isn't projected very high. I think you can probably get them to take Mrazek while you're at it.

I like the idea of going after higher picks in exchange for Nylander though. Even if it's a straight up one for one, I would trade Nylander to a team like NJ or Ott for a top 10 pick.

@LL. You could be right. I think Peterka could be the next Hyman though and cost controlled for years to come, which is key for the Leafs.
Honestly, I am not sure anyone gives you a top 10 for Nylander right now (7-10). I definitely don't think they give a top 5/ 6 pick.

@ELF I don't see a 5-6 either, but I can see getting 9-10 depending on the team.

All means nothing now though, NJ isn't handing over 2ndOA lol.

I want the best backup goalie I can find with a low contract
COMRIE may be a good choice. If Leafs get it wrong with Comrie and Woll to start the season they can find another goalie early next season Matthews and Marner are going to be a lot better next season

Leafs can put themselves in better spot next season. Mikheyev I don’t bring back Leafs learned lessons off-season. You can find great cheap Players . Kampf Kase Banting I follow that same thinking this off-season . I save by trading Nylander don t resign Mikheyev or Campbell

Next season Matthews Marner Tavaras Banting are giving more turn Nylander into 2 players.
