Not a fan of this. Schenn is not a big minute top line guy anymore and Patches isn't a top 6 forward.

Schenn offers what the Leafs need. A do whatever it takes to win for your team guy. We don’t have that or at least not enough. Schenn will be one of these guys sticking up for teammates, sending messages, playing on the edge. Plus putting up key points from playing in the blue paint. He is exactly what we need not Fettuccine Maccelli. Think Playoffs. Who are the guys to shine every time? Perry Marchand and Schenn is part of that group. Patches isn’t a full time top6 forward anymore,
You’re right m. That’s why I have him splitting time with Cowan. 82 games is too much for most rookies coming into this league with the grind, IMO perfect opportunity to split time between the 2 while Cowan is learning first hand how to be a pro.

Clarky, Schenn is a $6.5M cap hit for 3 years and his production and ice time is already declining. In the playoffs, on avg, he was getting about 15:30 a night. Had 3 pts in the 7 game series and 43 in 82 games for his career, less than his regular season avg. Yes, he adds a physical presence, but he is also looking like he is slowing down some. He will be 34 start of season and a lot of tough miles on that body. He has been extremely durable though.
If STL wants to eat a good portion of his salary, I'd be interested, but at $6.5M for 3 years, can't buy into that one.

I wouldn’t say declining but rotting in crappy STL with not much talent around him. Give him the spark of coming back to Canada and he can be the Wendel Clark type we need him to be. Guys like this add so much to any team on and off the ice, make Matthews feel confident with two big soldiers that have his back on either side of him. Plus have some pushback for the Bennett, Tkachuk clowns of the game. A guy like this’ presence does so much for a dressing room alone and when you see him have anyone’s back, it brings the team closer. Plus 40 is the new 30, ask Perry and Marchand.

Schenn was never the skater like Perry and Marchand. Im not sure coming to Toronto reminds the Clock on Schenn, but maybe you're right. I like what he brings, but you still have to have some skill and not all 30 and up guys. Verhaeghe and Reinhart, Barkov are not super physical guys. They are not soft by any means, but they are not Bennett either. Florida did a great job building a strong team. It wasn't done in two years or over a summer. It took them years to build that and they didn't have Dubas screwing it all up for most of that.
